This spot had the highest reviews for pizza near where I’m staying in Pula, so I had to check it out. And I have thoughts—good ones, but also some insights from someone who actually cooks.

Let’s be clear: the pizza is very good… but it could be better.

Vibes First: Compared to the other restaurants lining the main walkway, Pizzeria Juniper was clearly more popular. Granted, I came during the off-season (May), so summer might look different. I was seated quickly, and the service was great—my server was friendly and patient despite my “clueless American tourist” energy. It feels like an American-style pizzeria, but with actual seating and way more charm.

The Pizza: I ordered the Istriana pizza (normal size—plenty for one). Highlights? The cherry tomatoes were the freshest I’ve ever had. As someone from the U.S., I can confidently say our tomatoes are trash compared to these. One heads-up for my fellow Americans: they go heavy on the arugula here. I like it, but if you’re not into bitter greens, it might throw you off. The prosciutto was excellent—salty, rich, and brought balance. Honestly, without it, the pizza would’ve been under-salted.

That said, my pizza arrived lukewarm. Not cold, but not piping hot either. Every other pizza I’ve had on this trip came out blistering, so I noticed. It didn’t ruin anything, but it’s worth mentioning.

A Cook’s Two Cents: Here’s where I put on my “home cook who overthinks food” hat: the cherry tomatoes were raw, added after baking. They were fantastic on their own, but I think they could’ve been even better if roasted with the pizza. A quick blast in a hot oven would’ve coaxed out deeper sweetness and flavor. Or—if moisture’s a concern—pre-caramelize a batch and use those as the topping. Just a thought.

Also, a post-bake drizzle of quality Istrian olive oil would’ve leveled everything up. Something peppery, fragrant. Istria is known for its olive oil—might as well flex it. Honestly, I’d pay an extra euro for that kind of finishing touch.

Crust & Cheese: The dough was solid. Structurally sound, thicker than other super-thin pizzas I’ve had here, so you can fold it like a true New Yorker. The cheese was good—not super memorable, but it did its job. And in the end, the whole pizza came together beautifully.

Final Take: Delicious, well-balanced, and incredibly affordable. I’m giving it 4 stars mostly because I know it could be pushed just a little further—and I say that with love. Definitely worth a visit if...

Brilliant restaurant - absolutly recommended to come here. Maybe a funny coincidence that this is review no° 6000 of this restaurant.

Travelling croatia for the first time, we were really disappointed with food&service for the first 3 days.

Luckily we found Pizzeria Jupiter who made it to our top 3 pizzerias worldwide!

A W E S O M E restaurant 🙏

Extremely friendly, professionell and well-organised service (Special thanks go to our wonderful server 'Petra'), atmosphere is really authentic and also ambience and seating were very nice. Even though Jupiter is really a busy restaurant and we sat close to the pizza oven outside, it was not loud, hectic and we felt comfortable all the time. They also took care of all hygienic topics and everything looked clean and tidy.

Best pizzas were recommended without any hesitation, all the staff spoke very good English, prices are very affordable and also great value for money. And i mean it when saying GREAT!

You could also ask for extras like Chili-Oil Balsamic oil without extra charges. Everything came fast and fresh, we could see how the Pizzas were made in the oven. Taste was great and on point. The Istria pizza had like 20 fresh tomatoes on it, crazy.

Drinks were also very good. After 2 Radler and an Espresso i had a Gin-Tonic which also tasted great. And.. The price is really a steal. Make sure you don't miss out. Missed the name but it was a local one that was recommended. Not too dry or too spicy so i don't think it was a London dry gin but most likely something close to Gin Sul or Le Tribute Gin.

If you haven't been to Jupiter, you missed the best restaurant in Pula (any maybe Croatia?). Anyways - thank you very much and keep up the great work. I am still amazed how good this evening was and feeling bad for not skyrocking the tip tonight. These people really deserve the best.

Another chance tomorrow because we will come back to try other dishes.

PS: we did not order it but we saw the biggest-ever Chocolate-Cookie Pancakes on several tables which was often shared by 3-4 guests. Looked crazy good but unfortunately we didn't have any room left for more food.

Again thank you...

A Memorable Culinary Experience at Pizzeria Jupiter in Pula

My visit to Pizzeria Jupiter in Pula was an absolute delight. Although we skipped the pizzas and opted for local grill specialties, the dining experience was nothing short of exceptional. Drawn to the restaurant by other reviews, we were far from disappointed.

Despite the need to wait for a table, the process was remarkably efficient. We selected a local wine from their menu, and the sommelier's professionalism stood out as he even took the extra step to chill the bottle a bit more, considering it was slightly warm. This attention to detail set the tone for the rest of our evening.

Opting for a grill platter, we were treated to a feast that exceeded expectations. The flavors were impeccable, and the portion size was ideal for our party of two. The attentive treatment we received from the staff only enhanced the overall experience. The balance between the quality of the dishes and the price we paid was truly commendable.

The highlight of the evening was witnessing the wood-fired pizza oven in action at a neighboring table. The tantalizing aroma and visually appealing pizzas convinced me that a return visit is a must, next time to try their renowned wood-fired pizzas.

In conclusion, Pizzeria Jupiter provided an unforgettable dining experience. From the delectable local grill specialties to the impeccable service, every aspect of our visit was praiseworthy. I'm eagerly looking forward to returning and indulging in their wood-fired pizzas, undoubtedly a treat not...
