Worst experience I have had at a restaurant by far. So many reviews and so many 5star reviews… seems very suspicious especially considering the experience we had which no one should have to have. We were welcomed in which was nice. We were then told to order everything at once and couldn’t order things at separate times. Felt very pushed. We asked for a salad with extra anchovies. The answer was simply ‘no’. It was clear the waiter wanted us in and out quickly as a queue was starting to gather. Anyway we ordered drinks and starters against the waiters request. We then made a decision that due to the second rate service and food wasn’t great (simple and over priced) that we would leave. Waiter asked how it was - I said politely that it wasn’t a great experience as we felt pushed and asked for simple requests that we know they could fulfill and were told no - and ultimately the service didn’t live up to our expectations. I was told by the waiter ‘you are in Croatia now, if you say that you are going to get beaten up’. The waiter was …how do I explain… angry and distressed at my fair and reasonable feedback. The manager stepped in as he could see the waiter like this and said sorry and that we didn’t have to pay. The manager then followed after us up the street and said please don’t leave us a bad review. Grateful he waived the bill but that is an obvious decision under the circumstances. This place is simply a disgrace… no one goes to restaurant expecting abuse like this. We were polite, fair and reasonable. It was an embarrassment and I actually feel for the waiter as he is probably pressured into make certain sales decisions. I’m sure this doesn’t happen often but I recommend to take your business elsewhere, plenty of other good...

Table for one on my solo trip to Croatia. I chose this spot because it was tucked away from the main promenade—less touristy, more local—and the great reviews didn’t lie. This place is legit.

I’d never had black risotto before, so I didn’t know what to expect, but the presentation was beautiful and the flavor delivered. Rich and creamy with each bite. I won’t lie, the risotto was a touch aldente but also I eat an Asian diet 99% of the time so I’m used to soft rice. I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve had risotto so I’m not sure if that’s normal. My server was kind and patient with my first-time-tourist questions, and even helped me pick out a delicious local red wine to pair with the dish. It turned out to be the perfect match.

One small critique: the bread on the menu wasn’t anything special. I didn’t end up ordering it after my server mentioned it wasn’t house-made or particularly unique. Coming from the U.S., I associate European meals with standout bread, so I was hoping for something fresh or rustic. But honestly, that’s a minor thing.

Overall, I’m glad I skipped the more generic spots along the promenade. This was definitely the right call for dinner. Cheers—and...

DONT BE FOOLED BY THE RATINGS!!! My girlfriend and I were visiting as tourists and decided to try Veritas Food & Wine after seeing its sky-high ratings. Honestly, I don’t know how this place has such glowing reviews—it's almost laughable. The food was mediocre at best, the portions were shockingly small, and the prices were downright absurd for what you get. It genuinely feels like they bought those ratings because there’s no way this place deserves the praise it’s getting.

We’ve been to plenty of restaurants, and this one stands out for all the wrong reasons. The whole experience felt like a scam—the value just isn’t there. Even if the food was passable, there are far better places around. For instance, we had an incredible experience at Piazza Nove, where the food was priced reasonably, delicious, and served by knowledgeable staff in a much better setting.

Please, don’t fall for this trap like we did. Veritas Food & Wine is completely overrated, and I’m convinced they’re propping up their ratings. Save your money and time, and choose a place that actually...

《50 euros for a regular solo dinner, one course》 I arrived alone so I asked the owner "I cannot finish big portions but I want to try a couple of things, do you have some recommendations?" The owner said "sure, I can give you a smaller fish and add a bit of other seafood to try" And I said "that sounds perfect for me" When the bill came out, I was so surprised that I was charged three things separately. 165 was still charged for the smaller fish as the same price as a main dish (which is already more expensive than other restaurants in the town). In addition, the owner added 53 for one prawn (7 more euro charged) and 103 for three pieces of squid (14 more euro charged). I have never seen any other restaurant charges a customer like this. It is practically scam as the price of 165 on menu became 300+. Also I said I don't want the bread, they didn't serve it but still charged it. Attached photos are evidence. The dinner was overall OK but not special. Definitely not what I would spend 50 euros on. The 4.8/5 review looks very suspicious...

Veritas Food & Wine is was a five star experience on every level… high quality food, lovely atmosphere, friendly service, and good prices. We had a party of 8 and were celebrating a good friend’s birthday. We sat at a table in the shaded outdoor courtyard adjacent to beautiful old ruins. Veritas is a family owned restaurant and the owner, Mario, suggested we try the mixed seafood platter which consisted of the freshest dorado, sea bass, and prawns that we’ve ever had, along with a side of potatoes cooked with chard. We also had the mango and avocado salad which was very fresh and tasty. We were treated to several shots of local brandy and a dessert with a firecracker candle to celebrate our friend’s birthday. The entire family came out and sang happy birthday in Croatian which really made the day special. By the time we left we felt like part of the family! It was a very special experience and we highly recommend everyone try Veritas when visiting Pula.
