Tower of Church of our Saviour, with a spiral staircase that gives a bird's eye view of the city and beyond. Inside the tower, you find the bell, carillon and some broken pieces of decor here and there behind gated space. To climb the tower will require advance reservations via their website with the CPH Discover Card but it seems there is a quota for it cause when I arrived early and wanted to change my slot to an earlier one, the staff said there's still availability for 1.30pm, yet when I went online, it says sold out under the Copenhagen card option.
On one of the levels, there's a small room with a video description of the history of the church and the tower. One should watch this before the ascend and visit the church after.
The steps are pretty narrow and while I didn't count the number of steps, it was quite a workout getting up there. Once you are there, the views are worth it! The winds are so strong at some point I felt I was going to be blown over but the metal railings gave some sense of security. At the end point, the step is just sufficient space for 1 foot. And if you thought going up was tiring, coming down (the same way) was even tougher. The entire climb took me about 45 mins, including some waiting time to take...
Read moreIt took us two days to get up the 'Stairway to Heaven' because the ticket booking website is so eccentric. The staff were marvelous and helpful, however, and eventually sold us a ticket on the spot. You start by climbing a wooden stairway which goes up several flights before narrowing. There are interesting things to see and read on the landing of some of these flights of stairs. Then you are in a very narrow set of stairs up to the bell tower, where ranks of bells hang beside you. We were lucky to reach the bell control tower at midday on Sunday when a genius musician was playing various classical pieces on the church bells using a unique organ-like device. From there, you continue climbing, and then you are out in the open air. The climb continues on copper-clad stairs until you reach the apex, where the stairway narrows to nothing and all around you is the glorious aerial view of Copenhagen. It is...
Read moreClimbing to the top of the tower is a must-do while in Copenhagen. The views of the city are breathtaking. It can feel like an endless climb inside the building tower to reach the observation deck, when you come up from narrow passageways to expansive views of the city. Then you can make your way up the exterior spiral to the top of the tower. We went when it was a bit foggy and the views were still good. It definitely works out the legs. The cost is reasonable. There are spots along the way to let others pass up or down, sometimes you have to wait a bit for several...
