On our way back from Greece during the Coronavirus lock down, we had a stopover in Copenhagen. My wife had the idea of making or short stopover a much longer one by staying 4 days/3 Nights in Copenhagen from October 5th through the 8th. It was a really great decision. Copenhagen is a beautiful city with many great things to see so I am sure we would have loved the experience of going to Copenhagen regardless of where we stayed but when the hotel is great, it makes everything better. We stayed in a hotel just like that, the Hotel Bethel. It's a beautiful hotel located right in the center of everything. My wife and I could walk to every attraction from our hotel and we did that every day. The hotel is right on the Nyhavn Canal and we got a corner room with a canal view. It was spectacular. We were also within minutes of walking to Amalienborg (the home of the Danish royal family) and the canal tours. Everything was within walking distance from the hotel. As beautiful as the hotel and its surrounding are, the staff eclipse them all. The staff at the Hotel Bethel is truly top notch. They seem to love being in the people business and it shows. They were very friendly and helpful. When we got there, we were greeted by Anja and she made us feel very welcomed and went out of her way to show us the features of our room. Then, each evening we were lucky enough to have Miriam working and she was just fantastic. She was an absolute joy to talk with. She told us about the history of Copenhagen better than any tour guide could have. Both Anja & Miriam gave us great suggestions on what sights to see, where to eat and when was the best time to do all of those things. Each morning we had a great breakfast served by Violeta who was very sweet and pleasant and never made me feel bad for taking extras since as an American, I am used to bigger portions. Since we were there during the pandemic and Americans were not allowed in the country, I was even more appreciative by their genuine hospitality. I was able to go to Greece since my wife is Greek but Denmark wasn't open to me and I was very lucky that I got a very nice border agent who let me in after I proved I had a series a clean tests before entering. Everyone member of the staff that we met were all just beautiful people and they truly made the whole experience that much better for us. Thank you Anja, Miriam & Violeta and everyone else at the Hotel Bethel for making our stay in...
Read moreWill not return! Noisy and poor/no wifi internet so we left early and they refused to refund any portion even though we heard them give new guests a room as we left. The most important feature of a hotel is a comfortable bed and quiet room. We were pleased when we had rooms facing the inside courtyard (instead of the noisy street) but very early in the morning, we were rudely awaken to sustained loud clattering over cobblestones. The next most important feature is wifi internet: the wifi internet was spotty and kept dropping for 1.5 hours and then went down completed for over 1.5 hours and then we gave up; we reported it and it was not fixed.
We stayed in 5 hotels across 5 cities in 3 countries and this was the worst hotel considering the cost. Their cancellation policy was not aligned with the other hotels (2 day cancellation vs. 1 day or same day cancellation).
We stayed here based on the stellar reviews but were very disappointed. The hotel is located right on the Nyhavn canal in the heart of what had to be the most touristy area. It is a haul to get to the Little Mermaid or any good food. The beds are comfortable with a teeny bathroom (what you might expect on a cruise) with no counter space. There is 1 small Sony TV in 1 room with very little storage space. The included breakfast was good with cheese, cold cuts, cereals and breads (but in comparison to the other 4 Scandanavian hotels it was actually the least varied and Spartan).
Don’t make the mistake of staying here. You can get a better quieter hotel...
Read moreWe basically spent the night in the hotel. The room was a good size considering the standard of living in Denmark and the bathroom was almost American hotel sized. The shower had a glass divider that mostly blocked the water from spraying everywhere. The toilet was right next to the door so if anyone opened the door while you were on it it would hit you in the legs. The best part of the bathroom? The heated floors!! That was such a delight to have for those midnight visits to the bathroom in your bare feet! The view from the window was pretty good too. A stones throw from the canal/river. Lots of restaurants within walking distance. Granted, they were more expensive, but, still very convenient. A small souvenir shop just down the way for last minute souvenir hunting. The check-in/check-out desk people were super friendly and very helpful. You are about an 8 minute walk from the closest Metro which will take you to (and from) the airport. Super easy to use and pretty clean. The worst parts for me were that the "king" bed was 2 twins shoved together. There was kind of a gap between the beds but not too annoying. I did enjoy the sheets though! Super soft and warm! There is no AC! The room has a standard desk fan that oscillates and that is your "AC". They do have a furnace for heat though. You can open the windows if you want fresh air. And the windows have this sort of locking mechanism so you can leave them open at night without worrying that someone will break...
