Museum / House is small but very interesting with an insightful look in to the life of the national poet of Finland 🇫🇮 and the writer of the Finnish national anthem. Many personal items were on display including his wife’s receipt and equipment for making ‘Runeberg cake’. I need to find someone to help make them 😋

Due to COVID-19 there were no guide books to help during the tour (they are normally shared resource). The staff were extremely helpful and explained some queries at the end of the tour but the lack of signage explaining each room limited the experience.

It would be useful to have a plasticised photocopy to help non-native visitors.

The garden is beautiful and was well tended. I could have spent a long time sitting in the shade contemplating life on a lovely sunny day.

The €8 fee includes entry to his son’s Sculpture museum located across the road. Check out the family tree showing his descendants up to present day.

Reasonable value for money and a must see in this...

I visited Old Porvoo and decided I wanted to visit also at least one museum. Runeberg’s house seemed like a good choice.

The museum is maintained pretty well, both indoors but also outside, the garden. The entrance is free if you have a museum card or are under 18, otherwise 8/6€.

The staff is very friendly and polite. If you’re interested they give you a small tour with pretty interesting facts about the Runeberg family. The staff speak Finnish, Swedish and English. And maybe even more languages.

At the room next to the register there is an interactive space, where both kids and adults can have fun. You can take photos pretending to drink tea, set up the table and lots more.

Hint: buy some of their coffee. The flavor is great and it also makes a great gift.

A huge thanks to the staff for the...

My visit to the Runebergin Koti Museum was truly captivating. Stepping into the home of the famous poet Johan Ludvig Runeberg provided a fascinating glimpse into his life and times. The serene garden added to the overall charm of the experience. I was searching for a café that offered Runeberg torte, I remain hopeful that one day they will have it available. Despite this, my visit was still...

When you are visiting Porvoo and you have spare time (while waiting for your bus back to Helsinki), the place that you should visit. There are two Runeberg museums: Finland's national Poet, Johan L. Runeberg (Father) and a famous sculptor Walter Runeberg (Son). I paid the entrance fee for 8€ for both museums and spent 40 mins in total. The museum is very near the city square and the regional bus stop.

The staff here is incredibly warm! They gave us brief info about Runenberg, his family and house. While leaving we asked about one exhibit and they explained it to us. The living room was decorated for Christmas! We liked all rooms except the room with killed foxes... For vegans it's very hard to see and enjoy. From giftshop we got nice Runenberg cake magnet and baking form. Thank you!
