Domaine Joseph Gruss & Son (Fine Wines of Alsace) — Attraction in Colmar-Ribeauvillé

After our attempt to make an appointment with another winery failed, we just bumped into Domaine Joseph Gruss & Son for a wine tasting. It turned out to be an unforgettable experience. The winery is located in the charming village of Eguisheim, which provides the perfect, peaceful setting. The premises are meticulously maintained, and the beautiful vineyards at the back of the winery truly enhance the serene atmosphere.

What really stood out was the quality of the wines. The vineyards are calcareous, which imparts a soft, smooth finish to each wine. Whether it was the Sylvaner, Pinot Blanc, Riesling, Pinot Gris, or Gewurztraminer, each one had its own distinct character, yet they all shared that signature smoothness that made them incredibly enjoyable.

While the wines were undoubtedly the star of the show, our hostess provided insightful background information about the wines and the winemaking process, which really enhanced the entire experience. Highly recommended for anyone looking for great wine in a beautiful, welcoming setting!

Après notre tentative infructueuse de prendre rendez-vous avec un autre domaine, nous sommes tombés par hasard sur le Domaine Joseph Gruss & Son pour une dégustation de vins. Ce fut une expérience inoubliable. Le domaine est situé dans le charmant village d’Eguisheim, offrant un cadre parfait et paisible. Les lieux sont impeccablement entretenus, et les magnifiques vignes à l’arrière du domaine ajoutent vraiment à l’atmosphère sereine.

Ce qui nous a particulièrement impressionnés, c'est la qualité des vins. Les vignes sont calcareuses, ce qui donne une finition douce et lisse à chaque vin. Que ce soit le Sylvaner, le Pinot Blanc, le Riesling, le Pinot Gris ou le Gewurztraminer, chacun avait son propre caractère distinct, mais tous partageaient cette douceur signature qui les rendait incroyablement agréables à déguster.

We visited Domaine Joseph Gruss after visiting other wineries in the area. We immediately felt very welcome. We began sampling the wines, and with each one, our enthusiasm grew. Normally, I am not a a fan of Pinot Noir, but really enjoyed the 'Tradition' which we tried. I was intrigued by the Pinot Gris 'Casse-noisette', where I could clear taste the oak. The Muscat 'Ottonel' was my favorite, with a beautifully floral nose, and a gentle palate with a nice mineral finish. In the end, we took 14 bottles away with us.

Me and my wife have visited the J Grüss & sons winery in Eguisheim perhaps ten times over the years. Very nice place with great wines - and most friendly family members and staff.
