I am not a Jew, but I was shocked and appalled to notice several anti-Semitic (and quite frankly vulgar statues) I had read about being placed on certain cathedrals in the dark ages were still here on full display!! What a shame!
To the right of one of the front doors is what appears to be a Jew sucking the underside or private parts of a pig. And on the rear of the building overhanging the courtyard is another grotesque sculpture of a similar nature.
I would not trust the holiness or purity of any place that--far from removing such a reprehensible stain and apologizing for it ever happening in the first place--still boldly errs in its offense to God and to man. What message does this send? What testimony does it give? What damage you do...
Read moreThis is a large Gothic style church situated in the historic city centre of Colmar that I quite enjoyed seeing recently.
Historically, it seems there have been church buildings at this location since at least 1000 AD. However, the building you see today was constructed between 1234 and 1365.
It is a fine example of Alsace Gothic architecture from the Middle Ages and there are some nice things to see inside including original stained glass windows, choir ambulatory, altarpieces and Baroque era organ.

This might be one of the more interesting sights in town, especially if you're visiting during the winter months like I did (as outdoor options can be more limited then).
