Musée de l'Impression sur étoffes — Attraction in Mulhouse

This is a great museum because it shows the clear line of history of the dominant industry in Mulhouse from the 16-19th centuries: textiles and specifically, printing on textiles. It starts with original fabrics from 15-16th century India which had a big impact on Europe. When they decided to copy the fabrics they had to build up an industry that started with ginning through spinning and weaving to dyeing and printing. We enjoyed the fabrics of display, the historical pieces the merchants brought from Asia and the Orient during the peak of textiles in Mulhouse, and the historical display of printed fabrics until the present. The latter was a probably the highlight for me. I wanted to see more fabrics, especially more dresses! Some were beautiful. The building was purpose built as a museum. The entrance ticket was a small piece of printed fabric, that was a nice surprise. I liked the printing room a little less, but understand its value historically. Musée coup de cœur, j’ai pleuré devant la beauté de la salle des indiennes, absolument fantastique. J’y reviens aussi souvent que possible. Cependant je rechigne un peu à y emmener des amis qui contrairement à moi n’ont pas la carte étudiante d’alsace donc payent le tarif complet, ce qui fait un peu cher surtout quand il n’y a que l’exposition permanente. Étant passionnée de textile, je voulais assister aux conférences organisées, mais après avoir demandée à la dame en charge des inscriptions, il aurait fallu payer un certain montant pour l’année (je ne suis vraiment pas sûre des tarifs car c’était il y a 1 an et demi mais il me semble 20€ l’année + 5€ la conférence) qui dans mon souvenir était très cher pour une étudiante qui n’aurait pas pu venir à chaque conférence. J’aurai aimé des tarifs à la séance, peu cher ou au moins avec des tarifs étudiants, qui permetteraient également de rajeunir un peu l’audience, qui n’était constituée que de personnes âgées, et même s’il n’y a pas de mal à ça, je sais qu’il y a beaucoup d’autres jeunes personnes comme moi qui aimeraient y assister, mais qui sont rebutées par les prix. L’apprentissage et l’accès à la culture ne devrait pas être réservé à ceux qui peuvent se le permettre financièrement.
