Canal Saint-Martin — Attraction in Paris

One of my favourite places to enjoy a walk. Such a lovely place to explore along the canal.

The Canal Saint-Martin in eastern Paris is a 4.5 km long canal that connects the Ourcq Canal with the river Seine. It has nine locks and two swing bridges.

In 1802, Napoleon Bonaparte commissioned the building of the canal to bring more fresh water and food to Paris. The Canal St Martin in eastern Paris opened in 1825.

When Baron Hausmann was redesigning Paris in the 1850s, the Canal Saint-Martin was sent underground. The canal was lowered and almost half of it was covered over to create wide grassy boulevards. If you find yourself walking on Boulevard Richard-Lenoir and Jules Ferry, you are walking over the Canal St Martin.

На каналі Сен-Мартан мешкав герой Сіцілійського клану, якого зіграв Жан Ґабен і переховува він героя котрого зіграв Делон у своєму будинку, що і досі є... Le canal de San Martan est un lieu de prédilection pour les pique-niques et la détente des parisiens. Après un rythme occupé de la semaine de travail, il n’est pas facile de trouver un endroit pour faire un petit pique-nique. Tout le monde veut laver la tension hebdomadaire avec de l'eau et du vin. Mais ce sera toujours où que vous soyez assis. Parce que les canaux ne sont pas gros. Saint-Martan a des ponts divisés pour les voitures et des ponts en hauteur pour les piétons. Tout cela pour la commodité des bateaux qui marchent - un bain. Et pour des raisons de commodité, le reste des habitants de Napoléon III cachait une partie du canal souterrain.
