Nagoya is a nice and fancy sushi place in Montparnasse neighborhood. Walked in and the server welcomed me with a smile and led me to a table. Once I seated, he handed the menu; the menu was more like a booklet (10-20 pages). Nagoya offers so many dishes, more than 10 different food in each page and all the names in French. I asked the server if he can help me to find some of my favorites rolls but unfortunately the server only spoke French. Anyway, somehow with body language and showing pictures I understood him that I want albacore but it seems they didn't have albacore, then my second option was tuna and he confirmed that they have rolls with tuna. Anyway, I ordered two different rolls with tuna. I was so excited to try sushi in Paris. However, the excitement didn't take long. My order was ready, I took my first bite of tuna and avocado roll; I was trying to figure out the taste and flavors but all I could taste was rice and rice and rice. There was a tiny piece of tuna and a tiny piece of avocado in each roll and the rest RICE. Basically there was zero flavor of fish. The other roll wrapped with lettuce was spicy; the rice amount was decent but still a tiny piece of tuna and cucumber squeezed in which all I could taste was spice, rice, and lettuce. NEITHER ONE WAS TASTY. Overall the food quality was below average but the...
Read moreQuite disappointing I have to say, considering the current rating. We took a rose tonkatsu menu and a steak haché pané (currently recommended by the chef). The texture of the fried batter was really perfectly crunchy and satisfying, and the meat was well cooked, but every else in the meal was disappointing. The meat itself is quite bland and poorly seasoned which forces you to dip it in the barbecue sauce that comes with it (not the most interesting kind either). It also comes with a spoon of cold mashed potatoes with apples which was actually quite good, but very small. The menu will also get you small portions of steamed rice, marinated vegetables and udon soup, none of which were really tasty, and overall felt low quality. I found the price was also too high for the amount and quality that you get, compared with the standards of Rue...
Read moreNo reservations! We got there 18 minutes late from opening time at 7 pm and the place was already packed and a small line had formed behind us. Luckily, we got in in around 20 to 30 minutes wait.
I was craving curry tonkatsu and was satisfied with my meal. Meat wasn't too fatty or greasy. I was a bit concerned as there was a bit of pink in my meat but I was fine. I liked that the menu came an udon soup and not your typical miso soup (although the udon was not the usual thick and chewy ones I prefer).
My husband had the chicken katsu and he liked the crispiness and crunchiness of the batter and said the meat was tender, but to me, it was dry and I didn't like the sauce you had to dip it in. I don't see the interest of eating tonkatsu if not in curry as it's just dry...we liked the veggie side dishes too. Reminds us of...
