I really enjoyed this beautiful museum with incredible photos. The exhibition was very nicely done. But the staff was very rude and impatient, they ruined the visit. When we got there, they we're to close in 40 minutes but we thought that we could come in for a quick look. The first thing the staff told us where that they we're going to close for the night. We asked them about the opening hours and she let us buy tickets but they seemed very annoyed at us.

When we entered the upstairs and went into the first room the gard told us to leave and came running towards us to stop us from going inside the room. He said that they were closing in 5 minutes and that we should go downstairs again. Then, it was still half an hour left before they were to close. We went downstairs to go inside the Helmut Newton room, and they didn't let ut because it was to late. So went to the gift shop and there they just said, out, out were closing. The whole staff gathered around the cashier and just stood there looking angry until we left. The staff ruined the experience and we left, irritated. We payed for tickets, almost 40 euro and just wanted to have a look inside each room. We would have made it in 40 minutes but they still urged us to leave...

I am a great admirer of Helmut Newton's photography. I came to this museum with great expectations, because I think the museum should not be inferior to the work of the artist. I confess that the museum has not met my expectations. I had the impression that the work of Helmut Newton was not presented in a pleasant way. In some places so much was hanging together that you didn't know where to look and you actually got a very chaotic impression of the collection. Then I had trouble with the presence of a lot of light in the room that reflected on the glass of the frames. Sometimes you just couldn't see at all what was actually being shown. As if that were not enough, some of the works hung extra high, giving you the reflex to walk to the rear, so that you could see it better, but you bumped into a wall, because the place was simply not provided. It is a shame to see how the work of such a great artist is exhibited in an unpleasant way. I think that art should be shown as well as possible and that was unfortunately not the case here. It seemed as if not enough thought had been given to the presentation, the arrangement and the placement...

This 1 star is only for the way they admit visitors during this almost post pandemic times. Before leaving for Germany, I looked specifically at their site to see if special measures are taken. Found no such info. One of my reason to go to Germany was to visit the America 70/80s expo. Went there on Sunday, when the facility is open and there was no need for a ticket. When I was in the foyer, I asked for a ticket. The counter lady said that they don’t have any tickets there and I have to register and buy a ticket through the site. I also phoned and they said that although Sunday 4th was free entrance, you still need to register on the site for a ticket. Of course that registering for a ticket on the same day was impossible because, being free admission, all tickets were gone. Monday I had my flight, so I didn’t get to visit the expo. Unfortunately this contradicts the info on the site, still now. I think that the site should mention there is a limited number of persons that will be allowed entry and that tickets should be booked before hand using the site… This is not really nice for persons coming from 1700km, or any distance, for...

Always try to visit, when in Berlin. For Helmut Newton's fans, this is a place for rediscovering his works, time after time. Also there you can see not only Mr. Newton's photography and personal items, but interesting expositions of guest-authors, more or less connected to his life, work or places of living, to expand your experience. Plus, there is a good photo book and souvenirs shop, for your "private collection", but be careful, the Sumo book is too heavy for most airlines' cabin baggage! 😊

i am deeply shocked to have discovered a photograph of Jean-Marie Le Pen here. this man is a far-right fascist with racist, anti-semitic, and homophobic views, whose place in an art museum is extremely problematic. presenting such an image without critical context amounts to normalizing, even aestheticizing, an individual whose ideas and actions are dangerous and hateful. this is disrespectful to all the victims of the ideologies Le Pen embodies. this decision is shameful and unacceptable.
