Finally a seemingly great idea for a supper club in Berlin. This place emenates an international flair right in Berlin. A very cool location near the train station and a multi-million euro investment have led to a new icon in Berlin. The clashing of street bums out front and luxurious lifestyle with high prices inside are quite a social disparity and a case study by itself. A supperclub with a twist. Felix Brands and his charming wife have done a great job together with their investors. The poster couple as your hosts could promise a great night.
But unfortunately the cuisine and predominantly the service does not live up to this great promise at all. Food is subpar and totally overpriced for what you get. Don’t expect to have a culinary experience, you are just being fed. Maybe whatnots should be dispensed for the sharing aspect. Chef apparently cannot be replaced, because he is a co-owner unfortunately and the service is ultimately slow. Bookings get missed and wait time is unacceptable. But what counts here is the ambiance more than the food, which can be great on certain nights. The staff needs major improvements except for the cloakroom.
These kinks have to be ironed out quickly and this might become the new Studio 54 of Berlin. There is room for improvement and they should get their 5 stars, that they absolutely deserve. Will be interesting to see on my next visit in Berlin. Please shape up! 6 1-star ratings are 5 too many. I just realized this is the only 3-star rating they have...
Read moreThis was our second visit to Papillon, and while the ambiance and music were as lovely as we remembered, the overall experience this time around didn’t quite live up to our expectations.
We were the only guests during our visit, which made for a quiet and intimate setting — but also an odd one. The crew spent most of their time cleaning, rearranging decor, and even standing on the bar to dust glasses. Despite this, the service remained attentive and helpful, answering all of our questions with warmth and professionalism. The staff truly made the best of an unusual situation and helped create a pleasant atmosphere.
The design of the restaurant is still stunning — visually refined and thoughtfully curated. However, compared to our first visit, the food fell short. Unfortunately, it was nowhere near the level we previously enjoyed, making the high prices feel unjustified this time around.
There were also a few practical issues: the women’s bathroom door didn’t close properly, and one of the sinks was out of order — not what you’d expect in a place that presents itself as high-end.
Lastly, waiting for an Uber afterward felt uncomfortable, as the entrance area didn’t feel particularly safe or well-lit, which left a lasting impression for the wrong reasons.
In short, Papillon still has potential, but this visit left us unsure if we’ll be back again. The details — both in service and in setting — matter just as much as the food, and unfortunately, this time they...
Read moreTo anyone reading this: beware. If you value respect and fair treatment, think twice before going here. Management needs to fix this and stop letting the Doorman/Bouncer ruin nights for guests.
I had a very bad experience at this place. I went to join my friends who were already inside, but the Doorman/Bouncer, who seemed to be supervising the door staff, was extremely disrespectful and unprofessional. He ignored that my friends were waiting for me and made me wait without explanation at the main entrance. He then repeatedly asked me where I am from. I told him, “Why do you ask me where I’m from? This is a private question. You can’t ask people this as a bouncer.” Despite this, he used my refusal to answer as a reason to deny me entry.
This behaviour was racist, unprofessional, and completely unacceptable. Because of this, I had to call my friends outside to say goodbye, which ruined my night and theirs. This incident affected not just me but my friends’ night as well. A night out should be about enjoying yourself with friends, not being treated unfairly at the door.
Management must take responsibility for this incident, address this behaviour immediately, and ensure no one else is treated this way. Everyone deserves to be admitted based on who they are, not where...
