One of the absolute highlights of our three-day spring visit to Freiburg was climbing the Aussichtsturm Schlossberg. We stayed in the city itself, so it was really easy to include this as part of our exploring. We drove into Freiburg and parked at the Schlossberggarage, which is right near the Stadtgarten – super convenient if you’re coming by car. From there, we decided to take the Schlossbergbahn funicular halfway up the hill, which definitely helped save our legs for the climb ahead. The Aussichtsturm is a 33-meter-high tower with 153 open metal steps that twist their way to the top, and while it’s a bit of a workout, the views over Freiburg, the rooftops, the cathedral, and right across to the Black Forest make every step worth it. We visited in the morning and were glad we did – it was nice and quiet, and the fresh spring air with all the greenery waking up around us made it extra special. The tower itself is open year-round and completely free to visit, which makes it a great activity whether you’re in Freiburg for a quick stop or a longer stay like us. The climb might be a bit tough for those who don’t like heights or open steps, but the funicular makes it much easier to reach the base without too much effort. We’d definitely recommend making time for this experience – it’s one of the best ways to take in Freiburg’s beautiful setting and get a real sense of how the city sits between the hills...
Read moreYou can see the pretty lights in Freiburg city from above. It was truly mesmerizing, I got a nostalgic feeling because the panorama looked like a place in my hometown. Unfortunately, I couldn't go up to the "Schloss" because it was already dark and there are no lamps near that. There are two ways to go to the Schloss: 1. By hiking, approx. 30 minutes? I just guess. 2. By taking a "mini train" that costs 6€ for round-trip ticket. There's a restaurant up there, so don't worry if you found yourself hungry after hiking. I don't know about the price tho, but it's kinda look fancy. Anyway, Freiburg is a very beautiful city with a various tourists attractions that I will never...
Read moreAmazing views of the city and surrounding forest. It gets windy as you get higher than the tree line so be prepared. The space at the tip gets smaller also with the pinnacle only taking one person. But if it's not too busy then the views are amazing and second to none. The view of the valleys as you take in a 369 are beautiful. If you have clear skies then you can see far. Great dramatic scenery with the clouds and blue sky. It's a bit of a climb to get up however. A trick I found was to take the funicular from the city side which gets you halfway up and return is only 5 euros which saves you 15 mins of walking each way. ...
