ad 15+ Things to do in magical Leipzig 🎄 Here are some of the best things to do on your next trip to Germany’s music capital: 🎄 Visit the Christmas markets, eat all the food, try all the hot drinks and get a souvenir. I loved @kaethe_wohlfahrt but they also have lots of smaller independent ones 📸 Take some Christmassy photos with the giant tree inside the @maedlerpassage 🎻 Conduct your own orchestra @mendelssohnhaus It’s not hard, I promise 🎺 See a classical concert @gewandhausorchester The Gewandhaus is a world famous concert hall 📚 Admire the architecture at the University library 👩🏼‍🍳 Have a baking class at Bakery Kleinert 🎠 See the merry go round inside the Hauptbahnhof Plagwitz neighbourhood: 🎞️ See a classic movie @lurukino 🖼️ Spend some time at the @spinnereileipzig and see the art, exhibitions and meet local artists such as @biehne_porzellan ☕️ Have a cosy coffee and Glühwein cake @monolocoleipzig 🌭 Have amazing Hot Dogs @beardbrotherssisters For food I recommend: Gaststätte Kollektiv - If you want to feel what life in the GDR was like. The food was 10/10 The restaurant at the @panoramatowerleipzig - For views of the city and a chic evening @auerbachskeller - For a classic Leipzig experience, meet the devil and follow the footsteps of Faust 👹 And finally stay @viennahouseeasyleipzig for the best location and amazing staff Press trip with @leipzigtravel & @germanytourism #leipzigtravel #thingstodoinleipzig #germanytourism #lieblingleipzig #visitgermany #visitgermanyofficial #visitgermany🇩🇪 #leipzig #leipzigcity #leipzigram #leipzigartig #leipziglove #leipzigliebe #leipzigläuft #leipzigleben #germany #germanytrip #germany_greatshots #germany_insta #germanytoday #exploregermany #german_landscape #ilovegermany #travelgermany #germanchristmasmarket #germanchristmas #weihnachtsmarkt #christmasingermany #christmasmarkets 🎁

As a history and classical music lover, this place was on my wish list of what to see in Leipzig. My friend who lives in Leipzig told me it's a really nice fun place and that she went there there at least two times before. Well, she wasn't lying. First impression was a beautiful serene atmosphere, two very kind cashiers who perfectly answered all our questions and well functioning lockers for backpacks. The ground floor was a place for rather interesting conducting simulator which we all really enjoyed and then we went to the upper floors. The whole museum is beautifuly interactive, full of drawers with exhibited objects inside so they don't disturb the authenticity of Felix's floor. One can see there his death mask, replicas of his and his wife's clothes, his painting, a lock of his hair and even take three recipes that Felix himself liked to eat. Then there is Fanny's floor which is slightly more dreamy. It again shows some of the objects she used, a room witha wall full of her compositions a very cute room with a short movie about her life which is really well and beautifuly done and probably a high-light of the whole museum (at least for us silly girls), a room with the Biedermeier clothes which you can take on, then take a picture through a special camera and then download the picture for free on your phone. Well, long Story short, it's a beautiful interesting place with amazing calming atmosphere. Can only recommend.

I love this place! It is a 3-story house with even original wooden staircases from 1845. The ground floor is used more as a show place for works from Mendelssohn with some basic information about his timeline on the corridor wall but generally the ground floor has the most interactive functions in this museum. My favorite room is the Effektorium where you can try to be a conductor on yourself (it is a little pity that I have not found my favorite e-moll op 64), I do not know why I cannot upload a video here but I add a photo of the pink room. The first floor is all about Mendelssohn's life as a composer (even as a painter), his family and his connections during his time. It is really informative but it is really well designed. The plentiful information was organised in a structured way and was shown through different objects/media, so it is not that you read all the time, but try to get the information through different interactions. The second floor is about Fanny Hensel and you wil be partnered with her piano cycle "The Year". BTW there is even a picture room where you can change clothes and take a photo. I payed 8 euros for a student ticket and there are audio guides for other languages if you do not speak German. I don't know why but during my visit it was quite empty so on my side you can go there spontaneouly without making a reservation in advance.

You can tell that a lot of effort went into putting up the exhibition. The restorations are very well done, and the original artifacts are mostly interesting to see. The listening room was very good. Superb quality recordings and headphones, with a big digital library.

As an English speaker, this museum was difficult to understand. I could get information only through the audio guide, which doesn't allow for quick scrolling through the long (tedious, I would say) recordings. e.g, They have life timelines up on the wall with several dozen bullet points; I'd like to quickly go over it and not have to listen to it for 10 minutes.

When I first paid the entry fee I made it clear that I do not speak German. I was given a few pamphlets and sent off to see the museum. I saw that all signs were in German and the pamphlets hardly had any info in English. I went back to the desk to say that I can't understand anything. Only then did they offer an audio guide.

The interactive room that "lets you be a conductor" is pretty useless. Clearly the software, motion detection hardware and the huge speaker setup were EXTREMELY expensive. The room sounds amazing. Sadly, the sensor has such a limited range that it misses half of your input and just plays at minimum tempo. No way to control...
