Gewardhaus zu Leipzig is presently accompanying Thomanerchor Leipzig (St. Thomas Boys Choir) on tour in Asia. Collectively, they performed Johann Sebastian Bach's St. Matthew's Passion last night as part of the Hong Kong Arts Festival and will be visiting
The performance was conducted by acting Thomaskantor, Gotthold Schwartz, who lead an impressive collaboration which included the choir, lead vocals and symphony seamlessly transiting from one movement to the next while beautifully executing this Bach's masterpiece.
The Gewardhaus zu Leipzig vocalists in particular had exquisite voices, just lovely to hear. Having the world renowned St. Thomas Boys Choir to provide the supporting background voices made this a memorable performance to have seen.

Read moreI’ve just been to Mozart Requiem there and I’m a bit disappointed. This masterpiece wasn’t performed at its best. The warm-up music was too long, there were booms lacking in the continuo of the piece, the concert hall was stuffy and not ventilated enough - these few things were already bringing my whole experience to the end at the beginning. And I understand the modern touch to old stuff but… no baton in the director’s hand (I could hear a few moments off beat, especially the drummer. Poor man.) And ladies in trousers were especially not nicely seen on the stage. No matter the gender. When you’re a woman you dress like a woman. Read moreHaven’t been to a concert yet so will update this weekend but our first experience of the organization was one of getting an issue resolved with our tickets. The staff responding online as well as the staff on the premises both worked hard and efficiently to get an issue with our seats resolved. Very impressed.
Having now attended one concert at the Grand (Grosse) Hall I can attest to its great acoustics. Appearance is a matter of personal taste but I also like its appearance. Some of the artwork on display may dismay—indeed distress—some folks but I’m happy to see tribute paid to more than just the august members of the elites of classical composers...
