Small but well curated museum of skeletons and fossils of ancient creatures, including dinosaurs. Entry is free of charge. Ground floor displays vivid reconstructions, the most imposing of which is the mammoth. There are fossils on display behind glass on the walls, and explanatory text next to each display, both in German and English. It's a bit unclear which displays are reconstructions and which are actual bone or fossils. On the third floor there is another exhibit focused on fossilized squids and other sea creatures. Here most of the text is unfortunately only in German. This is a perfect short visit if you're nearby on a weekday, and brief enough to probably be nice for children as well. You can see it all in an hour, or you might focus on the dinosaurs on the ground floor and be done in 30 minutes.

Great little museum, definitely worth an hour's visit especially with kids - the ehibitis include a nice variety of fossils, dinasaur reconstructions, and the like. It is 'old school' in its presentation mode - models, reconstructions, texts, nothing high-techy - which is actually a welcome change. The 100-year old building gives a quiet atmosphere, and everything is just very laid back. When were were there, the current exhibition was about the history of palaentology and geology, giving a very nice outline of earth's history (assuming you don't go for the Young Earth story) and development of life on it. The entrance is free, but most of the texts and explanations are in German. Probably one can enjoy the specimens without them, but they certainly add a lot.

This is an amazing free museum to visit in Munich. Yes, it’s small. Yes, there isn’t a lot here so you can be done with it in a half hour, but you still get to see some Dino’s and any day you get to see a dinosaur is a great day in my book. I loved visiting and think it’s a great small museum to bring children to or go to by yourself if you have some time. I really enjoyed going upstairs and checking out all the fossils there as well. The history lining the stairwells was very cool to see.

A fantastic archeological collection on 3 levels of large and small fossils. The exhibit is surrounded by the department rooms, so it's a nice blend of academia and museum vibe. I've taken my 4 year old 2ce and we find even the smallest of fossils captivating. A truly worthy and important visit for any kid-at-heart to learn and re-learn about the dinosaurs and early life on earth.

One caveat, the stairs are a bit much when carrying a small person, and I had to leave the stroller...
