Königsplatz is a public square in Munich built during the early 19th-century by order of King Ludwig I. Here you find three monumental buildings designed by German architect, Leo von Klenze representing the three orders of ancient Greek and Roman architecture. Here you will find the Propylaea, a grand city gate structure which boasts Doric style columns and other impressive architectural features. Nearby is the Glyptothek (Ancient Sculpture Museum), which represents the Ionic Order and the Staatliche Antikensammlungen (State Collection of Greek and Roman Antiquities) representing the Corinthian Order. Like the Propylaea, the two museums offer impressive column lined porticos that are easy to appreciate for anyone with an interest in architecture. In addition to viewing the three monumental buildings, there is a large amount of green space, bicycle paths for riding through Karolinenplatz and access to nearby university park space. You are also near to the art museums of Museum District as well as interesting monuments such as the c Obelisk which is just east of Königsplatz.

A beautiful and relaxing square. A lot of locals hang out here and enjoy the sun in the summer. However, if you love museums, this is your place. It is in the heart of the museum quarter. Tip: A lot of museums are either free or discounted on Sunday, so if you're looking for something to do in Munich on Sunday, head to one of their museums. Königsplatz is known for its neoclassical architecture and design inspired by Athen's acropolis. In the 30s it was used as a rally location for Nazi party and there were several book burnings here. Some of the Nazi buildings have been taken down, but one remains and holds the Munich Agreement. This little area is both beautiful and educational.

What a fantastic place for #Fridays4Future. Have been there today with approximately 25-40.000 people to stand up for #climatestrike! What a great day for Munich, Germany and the whole world. And in the middle of the traditional and we'll known place school kids were singing "Power to the people". Peaceful and loud protest for a better future. At least if you're not joining #Fridays4Future here just visit the famous Lenbachhaus or have a walk around the place. It's amazing and next to it there begins the we'll known hood of Schwabing. Have a look and enjoy your stay in Munich. You're welcome!

Königsplatz is a stunning square in the heart of Munich. The neoclassical architecture and historic significance make it a must-visit destination. Whether you're admiring the Propylaea, the Glyptothek, or the State Antiquities Collection, you'll be immersed in the beauty and culture of the city. The vast open space is perfect for a leisurely stroll or a picnic. It's also a place where history and modernity harmoniously coexist. Don't miss this gem when exploring Munich, especially on a sunny day when the surroundings truly come to life.

Very large area surrounded by beautiful buildings historical buildings ! It was a bit rainy when i visited but still it was a great experience. There is nothing going on here when there is no event ao nothing to do really on the outside. A lot of bikes and cars pass by. The true value of this platz lies in the history behind it, and if you come for this then i think you will envoy it ! It was a Great feeling to stand here !

his public square is the cultural centre of Munich with many museums both in the square and nearby. On the square itself is the monumental Propylaea, the Glyptothek and the State Museum of Classical Art. Sadly the Glyptothek is closed until 2021 and much of the public square area was being converted for a concert. Personally, I would visit for the Glyptothek (if it was open) and Propylaea.
