New Parish Church — Attraction in Regensburg

Neupfarrkirche is a 16th-century and active Protest Parish church located at Naupfarrplatz in the Old Town of Regensburg. It was built upon the site of the Jewish Quarter after the Jewish followers were expelled from the city in the early part of the century.

This is a small single nave church with a modest Renaissance exterior and twin clock towers. The interior is subtle with Gothic features. The high altar which dates back to 1617 and surrounding paintings are worth a few minutes to enjoy. You'll find an interesting globe shaped candle holder near the front of the church as well as information in back relating to the old Jewish Quarter that predates the establishment of Neupfarrkirche and the square outside.

Given the small size of the Old Town, it is convenient to stop by for a quick look around Neupfarrkirche while sightseeing around Regensburg. Give it a 5-10 minutes while you are...

This church became one of my anchor spots whenever I visited Regensburg – whether in summer or winter, I always stopped by.

Located right in the heart of the city, it’s hard to miss.

Every time I came here, it brought me a sense of calm and pause in the middle of travel or errands.

The architecture is simple yet striking, especially with the twin towers and big clock.

The square around it is often quiet, making it perfect for a short reflective break.

Interesting fact: This is Neupfarrkirche, built on the site of a former Jewish synagogue that was destroyed in the 15th century. The church’s location has deep layers of Regensburg’s complex history.

Heute nachmittag hatte ich nach einem Treffen mit einer Bekannten noch ein wenig Zeit und bin dann jetzt doch einmal hineingegangen und kann sagen, dass mir diese kriche wirklich gefällt. Mit ihren gerade einmal um die 15-20 sitzreihen wirkt sie beinahe schnuckelig, strahlt dadurch aber für mich eine gewisse einfachheit aus, sie ist nicht so überheblich geschmückt wie meist andere Kirchen und erweckt daher eher das Gefühl auf das wichtige im Glauben konzentriert zu sein, die Verbundenheit mit Gott in der Stille eines Gotteshauses, nicht auf das prunkvolle darbieten der kircheneigenen Reichtümer. Ich selbst bin nicht gläubig wie ich gestehen muss, habe aber trotzdem eine gewisses Gefühl der Entspannung vernommen, ganz simpel beim Sitzen und einfach einmal in sich gehen. Einzig und allein ein Schild an einer unerwartet platzierten Treppenstufe hätte ich mir gewünscht, über die meine Bekannte beim verlassen der Kirche gestolpert ist, sonst eine sehr...
