Bürgerspital Winery — Attraction in Würzburg

My experience here was very disappointing. It was my wife’s last night in town and I wanted to take her out on a nice date to a higher end restaurant. We made reservations and still had to wait like 20 mins for our table. This was not that big of a deal though. Then when we finally got our table it was obvious that it hadn’t been properly cleaned as there were crumbs and food all over it. When our server came around she was extremely unfriendly. I assumed she was just having a bad day but then noticed how nice she was to every other table. My wife needed an English menu but I am fluent in German so this should not have caused any inconvenience. It took forever to get our drinks and it was so hot that day. Our food took forever. Our server never came to ask if we wanted more drinks eventhough were there for two hours. The rest of the staff was friendly and the food was good. For that price point though I would expect much better. We planned to have several drinks and desert but after two hours of wishing we had more drinks it was time to go. What an incredible expierence!!! I am from Wuerzburg but my husband is from the US. I wanted to give him a truly franconian expierence. I didnt want to influence my husband with my favorites so we asked our server which was Catalin to curate our dinner with must try dishes as well as wine. I have introduced my husband to Silvaner in the past and he wanted to try different kinds. Impressed does not express enough what we expirienced. Catalin was extremely knowledgeable with all the wines and the food recommendations are incredible! The winery has a pleasant setting but is EXTREMELY overpriced. Unlike many other reviewers, we found the staff friendly and attentive. The service is slow, and I mean slow!! For a plate of cheese we waited 30minutes - we were here early during the day and the winery only had people on 3 tables….
