Hotel Maya Internacional is basically your only decent option in town. The hotel has an open air lobby and a nice open air restaurant with lake views. The rooms have a nice large bathroom with sink and shower and a large mirror. The room itself contains two double beds that are okay but not exactly comfortable as the “head board”is made up of three branches that do not allow one to comfortably lean against when reading. Extra pillows would improve comfort somewhat. Our room had a balcony with two wire chairs that faced the lake which was a nice touch as there is quite a bit of bird life on the lake. The balcony is sealed off by glass doors inside a metal frame. While this made the room bright it also turned out to be a nuisance. The metal door had some lateral movement which meant that whenever there was some wind the window panes rattled. The WiFi was more miss than hit. We stayed for three days/nights and for 2 1/2 of them the WiFi was very poor. Never ask the hotel to call a taxi for you as that simply doubles your price. They appear to pocket a 50% commission from the drivers. Our rate included breakfast which was pretty good and came with eggs, toast, orange marmalade, beans and the choice of tea or coffee. Overall this place is over-priced for what you get. Anywhere else the hotel would only be able to charge half of what they do charge but given the remote location they just do not have any decent competition. Staff is very friendly, polite...
Read moreThis was a slightly odd place, but we felt well taken care of. Our initial rooms were not great (small, bare-bones, evidence of small wildlife inside), so we asked for an upgrade and were given a very nice suite of large, comfortable, adjoining rooms. This was fairly late in the evening, and the person who helped us (assistant manager?) was friendly and accommodating. ||We ate both dinner and breakfast in the restaurant – the food was very good, though service not very attentive. We slept very well... didn't hear any noise from the nearby shopping mall. ||It's worth noting that that this hotel isn't actually on the island of Flores, it's just over the bridge. Picturesque setting, right on the lake. We stayed one night, as a stopover on our way to Tikal; probably wouldn't consider a longer stay here, but it served its...
Read moreWe were disappointed by our stay at the Maya International in Flores. |The restaurant has a great waterfront location and the food was very good.|The hotel service was very bad. There is no English spoken among the staff. We asked for help with a restaurant reservation and confirmed they understood, but the restaurant did not have any record of the reservation. |We had an early departure and needed a transfer to the airport, but despite confirmation of our request, there was no transfer arranged in the morning and they tried desperately but could not find a last minute ride for us. Luckily, a worker drove us in his truck or we would have missed our flight. |I can not...
