Restaurante Típico Imperio # UNO — Restaurant in Flores

The waiter heavily insisted that tips are not included on the cuenta. Well a tip isn't included as it's optional, right ?! I checked the menu to see anything mentioning if the service is included or not. No mention anywhere we should pay extra and it is the first time I'm asked to pay extra on the bill in Guatemala. I showed the waiter the menu and asked if the service was not included. He couldn't respond but he knew for sure how to ask in english if the demanded tip was going to be in cash or with the credit card !!! I was exhausted after hours of bus drive so I gave 10% as i felt forced to leave something and couldn't get an answer from him what or how much. I didn't see anyone on the way out to ask, so...

I don’t usually leave negative reviews, but I felt compelled to share this experience. The waiter added extra charges (not a tip) to the two items I ordered, which felt dishonest and unprofessional. He also strongly insisted that tips were not included in the bill — which was unnecessary, as tipping is optional and should never be pressured. This came across as overly aggressive and made the experience quite uncomfortable.

I was actually planning to return the next day, but after seeing both the food quality and the service, I’ve decided not to. Unfortunately, the meal was underwhelming, and the overall experience left a poor impression. I hope the management addresses...

This place is just great. It has very nice, satisfying food for a good fair price! Both locations. It is the kind of place where you order an extra drink, a dessert and stay to relax because it is just good and service is great! And you are not afraid to pay too much but you like to give them a good tip because they deserve it. They really try to make you feel very welcome and help out with whatever. I would recommend this place. Of course if you want pasta or some other type of food that is not ‘tipico’ (local) than you should go somewhere else.. but for good tipical food this is the nicest place on the island...
