This was my hostel for my entire stay in Budapest (July 3-July 5). I am very glad to have booked this hostel. In a nutshell: staying here is a great value for money. My comments here are in no particular order, just my comments for each general thing that I remembered.

  1. Very good prices. In my experience w/ hostels, all-female rooms tend to be more expensive that co-ed ones. This was not the case for this. When I booked this thru booking.com, it was just less than 5 euros more expensive than the co-ed one. You can even add 10-euros for a buffet breakfast (but I didn't in my case). For context, my room costs 74.20 eur, including the city tax and I booked this 16 days before my trip. Towel is free which is great.

  2. Safe. Budapest is a safe city in general but staying in an all-female room was great. I have stayed in co-ed hostels before and it was okay but I still needed to be a little more alert. The beds each had thick curtains for privacy and a huge locker for each occupant across the bunk beds. They also provide a huge locker for each bed that can only be opened with the room keycard.

  3. Comfortable. Budapest is known to be a party city and certainly this hostel has its own party activities. I was a little worried when I saw a videoke session going on in my first night that was still going on at 23:20-ish at the lobby/reception/bar/buffet area. But I am really glad the noise was non-existent when I went up to my room.

  4. Clean. I stayed in room 105 and it shares the huge toilet-and-shower area with room 106 which is also a female only room.

Shower and toilet area There are 3 toilets and 3 showers. Each shower cubicle is enclosed by an actual door and not a curtain like some hostels I staid in. There are hooks inside the shower cubicles to hang your clothes and a wall-mounted shelving unit to place the shampoos and soaps and there are also some hooks outside each shower door. There are two wall mounted hair dryers that can excellently dry hair after each shower. There are also 3 sinks in this area. The toilets, showers, and sinks were thoroughly cleaned every morning which is excellent.

  1. Good location. The hostel is well-connected. There is a tram line nearby (around 3 minutes by foot if you walk fast) and a bus stop just outside the hostel.

  2. Great staff. The staff that were on duty during these days have been really kind and helpful.

Aside from all these, it was also really helpful that the people I shared this room with were very considerate.

I can only say good things about this hostel. I hope to come back to Budapest because 2 days and 2 nights are not enough and if I will be able to come back, I will definitely stay in this...

This is my second stay at Maverick.I even consider it as my home away from home. People are still friendly, beds are still comfy. Surosh and Natalia at the reception were of great help and assistance. If you come early before check in time, there is a luggage room at the basement where you can temporarily store your luggage. The people at the reception will give you the access key. I had the 6 bed room this time which was big and comfortable with an attached bathroom. There were lockers and drawers ( next to the locker and under my bed) for all my personal stuff. Just make sure you keep your belongings to the number given to you. Imagine if the person in bed number 5 leaves and you put your stuff there , don't be surprised if your stuff disappear because the cleaners has to clean that locker and drawer section for the next person who will occupy the bed number 5. The cleaners come daily to clean room and the bathroom but that doesn't mean trash it because someone will clean

I had great friendly roommates .

There is also a common room and kitchen at each floor for you to eat or cook. Always label your food with your name , check in and check out date. And if you did not finish them before you go, leave them at the free food section for other people to use. Don't forget to wash your dishes too after you eat so that other people can use.

You can also order food via Wolt and eat at the common room.

Minimise the noise when you come in late at night or leave early. Each bed has its own lamp and socket, use them wisely and respect other people's space.

As for the location, it is located few meter from Sjil Utca Tram station, Fovam ter Météo station, few meters from Kelvin Ter bus station. Getting Bolt is easy as well.

You can get your groceries and snacks from the Spar and Tesco express nearby which are few minutes walk.

If by chance hou are coming during winter, they have a heater . And if you come during summer, they have Aircon.

They have laundry service and you can also rent towel (if I am...

This has been a flawed experience for myself and my fiancée. During check-in, we had a very rude and patronising member of staff which didn't give our stay here a great start. Check in was relatively easy besides that. Our room was very clean, and the beds were very comfortable. The TV worked and even had some channels available in English which I thought was a nice touch given the low-cost nature of this hostel. The sink did produce a very nasty sulfur smell whenever the tap was running, I'm unsure if this is the hotel or the Budapest waterworks at fault but it was the only fault with the room.

The bar area doesn't allow outside food which is understandable, but does close very early for a bar. I'm unsure of the exact closing time but we once tried to have a beer around 22.00 and the bar had already been shut at that point. I personally wouldn't recommend getting food at the bar, and would recommend any visitors to walk up to one of the many main roads less than 2 minutes away and visit one of the many cafes, bistros or restaurants to get better food at a similar price point. After having a salmon croissant at the lodge, my stomach didn't feel great, though I can't say with certainty it was the food here.

Lastly, checkout was a relatively easy process, we just handed back our key cards and the rest was taken care of by the staff. They do have free luggage storage for anyone who wants to hold their bags on site for a few hours to catch an evening train or flight. It does seem there was a little bit of confusion between the front desk staff and cleaning staff, as we had a cleaner try to enter our room while we were asleep as no one had informed them our stay included a late checkout, and after a small confrontation she finally left the room.

All-in-all, if you're looking for a cheap comfy bed in a good location and don't mind risking having a little rudeness from the staff, it's not a bad choice, though I will personally be looking at other hotels and hostels should I come back to this...
