In praharam Navagrahas, and Chandikeswarar, Adi Sankara, Sri Araalakesi Amman, Ramar with Sita and Lakshmana, and Anjaneyar is opposite to the Ramar shrine. Ambal Aralakesi is facing south in standing posture. Dwarapalakis are on both sides of Ambal Sannidhi. Ambal is with Chatur bhujam, while upper hands holds lotus flowers and lower hands are in abhaya varada hastam. ARCHITECTURE The whole temple was constructed with bricks and cement concrete. The temple consists of sanctum sanctorum, common mukha mandapam and a maha mandapam. The sanctum sanctorum is on a upanam and pada bandha adhistanam. The Bhitti starts with vedikai. The pilasters are of Brahmakantha pilasters with kalasam, kudam, palakai and pothyal. The prastaram consists of valapi and kapotam with Nasikudus. The Vimanam is of 3 tier nagara style. Shiva, Dakshinamurthy, Maha Vishnu and Brahma are in the Tala and greeva koshtams. HISTORY AND INSCRIPTIONS A Private temple, maintained by the Bhaktamandali, a registered body. This temple’s bhoomi pooja was started on 1st October, 1968, by Sringeri Saradapeetam Jagadguru Sri Abhinava Vidya Theertha Maha Swamigal. Maha Kumbhabhishekam was conducted during 1975. After construction of Rajagopuram, Maha Kumbhabhishekam was conducted on 18th June 1992, by HH Jayendra Saraswati Swamigal and Sri Sankara Vijayendra Saraswati Swamigal.

The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Aralakesi Ambal, and its peaceful atmosphere makes it a perfect spot for worship, satsangs, parayanam, meditation and spiritual reflection. It also has Sannidhis for Sankarar, Pillayar, Murugan, Rama, Sita, Lakshmana, Hanuman and Navagraham. One of the standout features of this temple is the *Annabhishekam*, a unique and deeply symbolic ritual that takes place at the temple. The Annabhishekam involves offering food to Lord Shiva, symbolizing a deep connection to the divine and to the nourishment of both the body and soul. It's a heartfelt experience, as the food offered is later distributed as prasad to the devotees, which fosters a sense of community and sharing. The Annabhishekam ritual is performed with great reverence and dedication, and the temple authorities take immense care in maintaining the purity and sanctity of the ceremony. The aroma of freshly prepared offerings fills the air, creating a sense of devotion that is hard to put into words. The temple itself is meticulously maintained, with a calm and serene ambiance that enhances the experience. Highly recommend visiting during the Annabhishekam ceremony for a truly memorable and fulfilling experience.

One of the best maintained private temples in Chennai. The temple is sparsely crowded with floating visitors on normal days. Great for sitting and chanting or meditating for a while. But the dedicated priests and sincere patrons for the temple make it a happening a place through every small and big occasion on the calendar. The Annabhishekam (Oct/Nov) is a must watch spectacle during which the entire temple is decorated with fruits and the the diety ordained with Rice. Be prepared to stand in a queue across 4 streets to get a close glimpse. They welcome offerings from all devotees and all excess food grains and fruits that are not distributed to devotees visiting on that day are donated to different orphanages and old age homes. Another important occasion to visit is Mahashivarathiri.

This temple is very vibrant and peaceful because of the regular, systematic, highly sincere, dedicated group of porohits carrying out the day to day pooja. Highlight is that there several programs are being arranged to promote the Hindu culture which Maha Perivava strived for. Seeing the present day mind set of people ,the Hindu values and culture are getting erroded very badly by strong influence on missionaries, and to sustain this onslaught, this temple is doing it's best for survial of our Hindu religion. All Hindus should contribute our time and energy to this noble cause to promote our religion before we become a minority in our own land. Secondly the manner in which the monthly Pradosams are conducted is beyond words to describe. The wonderful prasadam that is prepared and distributed is really great. Next the annual functions like Navarathiri, Sivarathiri, Annabisekam are some unique features of this temple. The alankarams done during the 9 days of Navarathiri period is something which is mind blowing to see. One has appreciate the crsftman ship of the porohits who carry out the alankarams do meticulously. The impact that this alankarams leaves in one's mind is wonderful. I would request every body to visit this holy temple whenever possible and seek the Devine grace which I consider the Kailasam Of Besant Nagar . The peace that you get in the temple is something that one has to experience than told in words-...
