We celebrated New Year's Day 2025 with a delightful lunch at Eden Vegetarian Restaurant in Besant Nagar, Chennai.
Eden Vegetarian Restaurant in Besant Nagar, Chennai, has been a cherished establishment for over three decades, renowned for its consistent quality and homely ambiance.
Starters: We began our meal with the classic tomato soup and a roasted pumpkin and peanut soup. The tangy aloo bites and bharwan paneer stood out among the starters, each achieving a delightful balance of crisp exteriors and soft interiors. The garlic bread, while good, didn't particularly impress. The tandoori salad featured a delectable malai paneer tikka paired with grilled pineapple and assorted vegetables, with the paneer being exceptionally soft and flavorful.
Main Course: Our selections included the chef's baked bowl—a medley of crunchy vegetables, corn, macaroni, and mushrooms enveloped in a creamy white sauce with a cheesy topping. The grilled aubergine, tomato, and mozzarella panini offered a harmonious blend of flavors, complemented by well-prepared potato wedges. The vegetable crumble presented fresh vegetables baked with a nutty topping, and the corn and capsicum pulao accompanied by subzi mirchiwale provided a satisfying, mildly spiced option. The pulao was fresh and fragrant even though couple of us felt it could have used a bit more salt, but that's just personal preference.
Drinks: The lime mint water and pomegranate juice were both refreshing, serving as excellent palate cleansers between courses.
Dessert: Concluding our meal, the warm apple pie with whipped cream was a highlight, offering a perfectly balanced sweetness that was both comforting and indulgent.
The total cost for four adults was ₹3,628, which we found reasonable given the quality and variety of dishes. The portions were very adequate, in fact we had to take some leftovers to go.
In summary, our New Year's Day 2025 lunch at Eden was a delightful culinary journey. The restaurant's unwavering dedication to delivering exceptional vegetarian cuisine, combined with its warm and inviting atmosphere, with quick and efficient service staff, ensures that it remains a beloved destination for both long-time patrons and...
Read moreI visited this restaurant with my family, for MeetUp with my college friends. As this restaurant is located in the heart of the city (Besant Nagar) it was so crowded while we visited the restaurant. There is no car parking facility provided by the restaurant, so I parked on the opposite street at my own risk and entered inside the restaurant. Not much about the atmosphere, good decent ambiance. This is the first time I have visited this restaurant, while seeing the menu, I am totally confused about my order. One of my friends is a regular customer. So based upon his guidance i placed my food order ....i have visited with my family along with my 10 year old girl. It may take around 10 to 12 minutes to serve your food. We ordered starters first and arrived at our table, all fried starters are in the same colour with less salt, we requested executives to add salt for all the starters we have ordered. I don't know why they have not added masala for spicy as well as colour....we have ordered around 8 varieties of starters the maximum number of starters (fries) are in the same colour and taste. My daughter does not take many items....it could be more tasty, if they add masala for colour as well as taste. But we loved the main course butter naan as well as mixed vegetable masala gravy and my daughter took ice cream. The crowd was increasing when time went on and on...I am not saying the food quality as well as quantity is not good, if they add masala it would be better in taste. (As we all are Non-veg lovers) So we expect that masala type of food, so we decided we have chosen the wrong type of restaurant. My friend who is vegetarian loved all the foods. So those who are non-vegetarian lovers may consider it once before visiting this restaurant. I think this may be heaven for vegetarian people. No parking facility, so park your vehicle in the opposite street and then have your food. Overall a nice meetup with friends in a good...

An absolutely impromptu lunch with family after finishing some shopping in Besant Nagar. As we passed through this road, spotted Eden and immediately decided to hop in.
The place was a pretty good AC dining restaurant with pleasant ambience. Not very upscale, but good. Must have definitely received a face-lift over the years. It was different from what i remembered.
This place was way ahead of its times. A vegetarian continental cuisine, quite unique back then when continental cuisine in general was limited to restaurants in 5-Star Hotels. They have a nice mix of North-Indian, South-Indian, and Continental Cuisines in their menu.
We ordered 👉Khow Suey Bowl 👉Supreme Spaghetti 👉Roti x3 👉Rumali Roti x2 👉Paneer Methi Kofta 👉Paneer Butter Masala 👉Walnut cake flan (something like that) 👉Fruit Crumble 👉Chilli Guava Mocktail
Food, in general, was wonderful! Tasty, nice flavors, absolutely no complaints!
Khow Suey Bowl was good too, however, I felt there should have been a little more soup to dunk the noodles in. Looked okay initially, felt short after mixing.
Both gravies with breads were fantastic! The flavor in Paneer Methi Kofta was brilliant with super soft paneer Kofta.
Spaghetti was cheesy and yumm! Daughter loved it. The cheese dumplings in it were wonderful too.
Chilli Guava was fantastic! The salt and chilli powder-rimmed glass made it taste even better.
Both the desserts were good, loved it.
Overall, a fantastic lunch with family! Paid 2.4K in all, the place would be a lot more cheaper if we stuck to North-Indian mains instead of experimenting with Chef's Specials. Since we loved what we ate, no regrets on what we tried.
I'd certainly recommend if you're in a mood for good...
