Life is too short to not indulge in a great 90 minute massage in Ubud. And Putri Bali Spa fulfills that order to a sterling level. A very user friendly and nicely adorned facility. The massage rooms each have a sweet little ornamental plant garden attached. And the Masseurs know their moves from the tips of the toes to the top of the noggin . Woo hoo! I walked out of there feeling like a newly minted avatar. Don't wonder about it....just get yourself plopped down there on a massage table and exhale.
And then this is from my partner Stephanie Brookes who also accompanied me but cannot get the review function to cooperate:
I have been to Bali Putri Spa five times now. It's amazing. The spa is immaculate, and the staff are very attentive and friendly. This spa is very popular with the local ex-pat crowd, and the good news is they have now completed a new wing offering more private rooms, so now, you will find it easy to get a booking here.
I had an incredible 90-minute Balinese massage that was well above the standard. My massage therapist, Meta, was 5-star. All the girls are well-trained and experts in providing a restorative and complete massage. The facial massage at the end is pure bliss. There is something very relaxing about having all the fine acupressure points of the face massaged after a full body massage.
Ginger tea and fresh fruit are served in their beautiful restaurant, which is a lovely touch. On the pricing, the spa price is above average, but this is no average spa. Folks, you get what you pay for. Do not go to those musty old spa places. They just don't cut it. Pay the slightly higher price and believe me, you will be thankful.
Shirodhara and Tibetan Singing Bowl.
For a high-end experience, try the Shirodhara Ayurvedic purification treatment - it's 3 hours! Wow!! The Tibetan singing bowls, the mantra chanting, the placing of 7 stones on the 7 Chakras and a heavenly full body massage was totally indulgent and for me, the experience was a reset - a realigning of the soul.
If you follow Kundalini yoga - we have ten bodies, so a realignment on an energetic and physical body level is as close to heaven as you can get (in this realm, anyway). All chakras and ten bodies are harmonised.
It was extra special because it was my birthday. I don't know if this is automatic, but do let them know if it is your birthday. Not only do you get a cake, but the staff sing happy birthday in your private room (under the sign - "quiet please"). On arrival at my private room, I was actually greeted by a line of flowers on the floor bearing my name. Who does that?
The treatment included a blessing ceremony with flowers, pouring hot oil on my forehead and being doused with coconut water from a small yellow coconut - very special.
This was, for me, the most blissful massage and spa treatment I have ever had....
Read moreI had an absolutely awful experience at this spa, and I strongly advise others to stay away. From the beginning, things went wrong. Before starting the spa, I specifically requested to remove my makeup, but the staff insisted on doing the spa first. During the session, they placed cucumber slices over my eyes even though I still had makeup on, which made me feel extremely uncomfortable.
After the spa, I asked to remove my makeup before the floral bath, but the staff told me to take the bath first and that they would bring me makeup remover. However, after 20 minutes in the floral bath, no one had brought it to me. At this point, I was feeling very hot and starting to sweat, but because I still had makeup on, I couldn’t sweat properly, which made me feel terrible.
I stood at the door and loudly called for staff for five minutes, but no one responded. I had no choice but to contact the front desk via WhatsApp. Only then did someone finally come with the makeup remover.
After I finished showering, I had no idea where my clothes were or where I could dry my hair. Again, I had to stand at the door and shout for more than five minutes before someone finally responded. They handed me my clothes and simply pointed in a direction for me to go dry my hair—without actually guiding me. As a result, I got lost while trying to find the hair drying area, and my wet hair soaked my clothes, making me feel even worse.
At the end of my visit, I expressed my frustration to the front desk, telling them how difficult it was to find staff when needed and how dissatisfied I was with their service. Shockingly, the receptionist did not even offer an apology or any explanation. It felt like they just took my money and didn’t care about providing proper service.
To make matters worse, the floral bath was disgusting—there were small stones and insects in the bathtub. But the absolute worst part of my experience was when I checked my phone after the spa. I found several photos of myself taken during the session, which I had never authorized. The staff took my phone and took pictures of me without my consent. This is a complete violation of privacy and utterly unacceptable.
This spa is an absolute disgrace. Avoid it...
Read moreWe booked this spa with high expectations, but unfortunately our experience was not very pleasant.
First, my girlfriend had requested on the morning a massage for 6:00 pm. We received a message from the spa, but since we replied two hours later, they canceled our spot without warning however they also replied 2h after us. We later learned that it wasn’t considered a “reservation,” but nowhere was it stated that replies must be made within two hours. It would have been better if this rule was made clear, or at least if the spa informed us that the time was given away due to being fully booked. Because of this, the earliest they could offer us was 7:30 pm, which was frustrating.
During the massage itself, I felt uncomfortable with how nudity was handled. The staff did not always make an effort to cover us properly with a sarong, and I often felt exposed. At one point, my blanket was pulled down too low, and my underwear was adjusted in a way that made me feel unnecessarily uncovered. It felt like there wasn’t enough attention to protecting clients’ modesty. At the end, we were asked to take a shower at the corner of the room, with no curtain or privacy, while the staff remained inside to clean. Even though I’m sure they stayed professional, it was still very awkward to be showering in see-through underwear in front of them. The room layout suggested this might be the same for other clients too, which doesn’t seem ideal.
Finally, after the session, my girlfriend was asked to remove her previous online comment about the booking issue because it was “a misunderstanding.” Even if that’s the case, it felt inappropriate to be pressured into deleting a review. Clients should be free to share their honest experience—good or bad—without being told to take it down.
Overall, while I believe the staff are skilled and professional in their own way, I think the spa needs to be much clearer about booking rules and, most importantly, should respect clients’ comfort and privacy...
