I understand that in a developing country, service standards are not the same as in North America. However, acknowledgement goes a long way. I ordered my food at a table of four, the server wrote it all down. Some time later, my friends' food came, and they were waiting on my main to arrive so we could all eat together. More time passed. At this point it had been close to twenty minutes after their meals had been placed down so I told my friends to eat and I went to ask a server who was near the kitchen and she asked me what I had ordered. She then yelled out to kitchen to start my order. At this point I realized they hadn't even begun my meal yet so I cancelled the order because my friends were nearly done eating. It just strikes me as ridiculous that two servers walked by and noticed I had no food while my friends did - and one of them had taken my order! - and didn't think anything of it. There was no apology either or even an acknowledgement that they forgot my food and this ruined what I am sure would've been a lovely...
Read moreThis Warung on the western side of the palace on Jl. Raya Ubud is a little hard to find, but Google Maps will get you there. It is just a little doorway on the street that takes you into a family compound, which is decoratively laid out with tables and chairs. This family warung serves traditional Balinese food with some good alternatives for children. The food was prepared by one chef and the waiting time for our meal was minimal considering the chef was on his own We had two fresh fruit juices, two appetisers which had lumpia, prawn, chicken lilit, salad and dipping sauce, Nasi Goreng Kampung and Sate Campur. All the food was fresh and very tasty with a good amount of chilli and spices. All the meat was perfectly cooked, juicy and tender and the peanut sauce and Sambal gave everything that extra kick if you want it super spicy. We have eaten here a couple of times and enjoyed everything and will continue to come back,...
Read moreWooooow walking into this place is like walking into someone's home and it's absolutely beautiful. All of the tables are sort of tucked away into their own little corners. I loved that there were multiple statues of Lord Ganesha and incense burning everywhere. It's all pretty much outside.
We had the Lumpia (spring rolls) Nasi Goreng vegetable (fried vegetable rice) and the Mie Goreng Kampung (fried noodles with chicken skewers). The spring rolls were piping hot and completely delicious with the perfect crunch and yummy filling. I really loved the sauce that the noodles were cooked in. The chicken skewers were also very good. Both dishes came with sambal and it had a nice flavor to it but wasn't all that spicy. There are also several very nice vegetarian options.
All in all it was a very sweet place tucked away off the main street with a really cool atmosphere and simple...
