Get in here.. Seriously? Have you not been? One of my favourite pubs in Cork City. Colm with the beard behind the bar should have his own show. I could listen to his Cork lilt and wit for days. This pub is full of endless little rooms and seating areas. There's an old hatch to order drinks from and a huge old stairs in the pub. Not to mention a small covered smoking area too with a mock bar that connects one side of the pub to the other. Their toasted sandwiches are legendary. On a rainy cold November day the fire is so enticing you will not want to leave. With a newspaper in hand, a pint of any beer, ale or stout you can think of, including whiskeys, wines and spirits, the sound of Christy Moore singing out of the speakers and the roaring crackling fire will have you relaxed and soothed. You'll lose hours in here. Busy Washington Street traffic outside is a world away. Live music at night too will seriously impress you as only the best of talents come here. From blusey acoustic guitar playing to deep soul stirring original tunes. Winter or Summer it draws in the coolest of people. What are you...

They know their job (Finn & Christopher) without being aggressive which is sometimes an issue in Cork, especially at the larger monopoly of pubs close by. My last visit was for Ireland v SA rugby 🏉 WC. Atmosphere electric. Being during student year and a Saturday night, many students amongst some of us oldies. All very respectful and chatty. It's a place, as an older lgbt female, I feel safe, accepted and Colm has my back. I had many a good time outdoors there during Covid with my sister in law. FYI: Central city centre location with covered terraces. Walk to town one way or UCC the other direction. 2 bus stops outside the door. Some good local takeaways. Malay Kitchen, authentic Thai, Malay, Singaporean and Indonesian cuisine. Iquerius across the road does OK Indian plus much more. Support Costigans, a small business we...
Read moreWent to Costigan's on a Saturday night (7.30pm). Waited outside adhering to the social distancing signs. Was approached by the bar-man (manager) who looked us up and down, ( I am a scientist and have any qualifications and respected work done), he informed us 200 people had booked into the bar and there was no way we could enter anytime soon. I live directly behind the bar, but it is sad to see that the bar is consistently dead with no one inside, and other people approaching are allowed in. When we were refused the bar was empty and the six Spanish behind us with no English were waved in. Would really consider their moral judgement...
