On Monday last December 7th I purchased a sterling silver St. Christopher Medal in your store from a lovely girl downstairs. I explained to her that it was for my only son who turns 21 next Monday December 14th and is currently living in Germany. I told her about all his travels and why I felt the St. Christopher was an appropriate gift for him. The chain that was on the medal was too thin and short for a man so I purchased a thicker, longer one. The total of my purchases came to €84. I told the lady that I wanted the medal engraved with Mondays date (14/12/15) and the number “21”, I also explained that it needed to be in the post today (Thursday 10/12) in order to be in Germany by Monday. The girl I dealt with was excellent and wrote everything down properly as I was watching her. This should all be in the Repairs book! She specified that the medal be ready for collection on Wednesday at 5pm so that it would definitely be there today when I called for it. The medal also had to be saudered onto the new chain as the loop was too small.
I unfortunately suffer from migraine and couldn't collect the medal myself today. My Husband went in for it instead. He brought it home so that I could see it before we posted it. To my horror the engraving is WRONG! The date is engraved across the middle of the disc leaving no appropriate space for the figure “21” which isn't there at all!!!! I am so very upset I cannot even explain it. It is hard enough to have your only child so far away on their 21st Birthday but to find that a gift you put a lot of thought into has been completely messed up is beyond belief. I rang your store as soon as I saw the medal and spoke to a Lady named Colette who was very apologetic but it wasn't her fault, it is the fault of the engraver who obviously did not read the instructions on the docket correctly. Colette has said that if my Husband brings the medal back in today (which he is now doing) the 21 can be added and that she will ensure the gift is fedexed to Germany in time for my son to receive it on Monday. While I do appreciate this, the fact is the disc is destroyed as the positioning of the date is in the middle of the disc and therefore when the 21 is added it will not look right. The 21 was supposed to be under the date in larger script in order to emphasise the fact that it is a 21st Birthday gift.
I am so very upset and disappointed in Matthew Stephens Jewellers who we have supported for over 26 years. In fact our Engagement and Wedding Rings were bought in your store 26 and 24 years ago respectively also our Eternity ring as well as numerous gifts since then. It was my only choice of store to use when deciding on this gift. Your engraver has managed to ruin my sons gift for me and made me 100 times more upset at him being away not only on his 21st but at this time of year as well. Thanks for...
Read moreHave just gotten my engagement ring here on Thursday, I’ve always wanted something a little different and randomly googled years ago (even pre engagement!) and have been obsessed with their instagram and YouTube ever since! Myself and fiancé went down to choose a style a few weeks ago after booking an appointment, and loved even the look of the place (the gorgeous arch with fairy lights attached) The store itself is fabulous, even the stairs we went up to the private room to start the exciting process! We dealt with Angela, who from the get go was truly wonderful to deal with, she didn’t rush us when we were going through different styles, which was very exciting as she brought out as many options which made it more exciting! as it can be a hard decision picking your ring for life! She was so friendly, patient and was very helpful when we had any questions. We finally picked a style and a colour of the diamond, I picked a 3 stone radiant with a fancy yellow as the middle stone. Angela showed us different shades of yellow, cognac etc etc which gave us an idea of what I wanted, I was in between the shades of yellow I wanted, as I wanted something quite unique. she even brought in a laptop with videos of the style and colour stone she thought I would want - and the minute I seen the first one she picked and showed me - it was like she knew me as the second I seen it I knew that was the one! She had the exact idea of what I would want, we were even offered a glass of champagne once we picked decided this was the one, which was a lovely touch as Angela wrote down every detail! She told us it would be a few weeks to be made, which we knew and when they called us to tell us the ring was in, they sounded almost as excited as we were. The second I saw the ring, I was tearing up as I knew it was going to be amazing, as everything in there looked, but it even exceeded my expectations, they couldn’t do any more for us in there, they really made it so exciting for us, I was speechless yet constantly saying it’s perfect it’s my absolute dream ring, it was just so so so perfect, I was in complete awe! I even love the ring box, and the Matthew Stephens bag the colour everything, I can’t wait to go back down for our wedding bands as we were so happy, it was a truly amazing experience, and it was the staff who made...
Read moreI wouldn’t recommend this place for wedding bands. We went in to look and were never asked about our budget. I asked to look at gold rings with no stones and was shown silver rings with stones? Make it make sense. My fiancé chose a ring priced at €825, but then told to make the ring — the price would be €2,500 to 3,500. My ring, a simple curved gold band with no stones was quoted at €3,700. That’s over €7,000 for two wedding bands — an amount that’s far from realistic for most couples. What surprised me most is that no one asked our budget, and no alternative options were offered. The only advice we got was not to come in a week before the wedding or we’d “have nothing.” Honestly, what man is spending over €3,000 on a wedding ring? None that I know of. It felt like pure money-gouging. Had the sales assistant maybe considered that we didn’t have an infinite amount of money to spend on 2 simple band we more than likely would have purchased there and then as we were looking to check another thing off the list. We ended up going to another jeweler nearby who was far more attentive, affordable, and actually in touch...
