I've been here a few times, normally I would say that the place does not live up to the hype, but today.. oh boy was today an exception. And sadly, not in a good way.
Today it was not an 'okay' or a '3 star' heck, or even a '2 star' meal.
We arrived into the restaurant where we were met by a female waitress who showed us to our seats (She was more than pleasureable to deal with) after taking orders she was soon replaced in her duty by the manager (I'm assuming due to the shirt).
He. Was. So. Uninterested. There could not have been a person who didn't want to be in their job more than him at that time. There was no hello when he came to the table, no how is everything for you.. honestly just no interest?
The menu, was litterally printed onto printer paper. I'm sorry but when your paying €13+ for a meal a proper menu is a must, it's not like you cannot afford it. Even if they are gone for a redesign, keep the old ones out until they are ready. The current ones just make you seem cheap.
Speaking of cheap, how come a coffee is an additional €2 on a breakfast, where tea is included? No service charge should ever be that high on a coffee especially when it's closest alternative is included free. (Seriously, are your margins that fine that this is where you make your money? This was the first thing I noticed aside from the menu and really left a sour taste in my mouth from the moment I sat down.)
Finally you have the food. This time around, i really did not see what people's obsession with this places food is. The white pudding tasted sour, and no where near like pudding. Sourbread was mediocre at best. Bacon was cold and burned to a crisp on arrival and the single sausage and 2 fried eggs were uneventful.
All in all, staff were nice. Management didn't seem interested. Food was...
Read moreMy husband, Steven, and I went out for a dinner for our one night stay in Limerick. We chose The Buttery as it was right next door to the Bedford, where we are staying. Immediately when you walk in, you are immersed in eclectic decor that has some French inspiration to it. Absolutely stunning! Our waitress, Taylor, was one of the sweetest you could hope for and very attentive! The manager, Neill, was absolutely charming and took care of us, as we mentioned to him that we were on honeymoon. The food is probably the best we have had yet on our trip! We ordered the Magic Mushroom pasta dish and the Goat Cheese Salad- the flavors were wonderful and paired so nicely together. For dessert, we chose the cinnamon bun. We were happily surprised when Neill came out with our dessert with a sparkler on top, with “Congrats” written in chocolate- all in celebration of our honeymoon! We were smiling from ear to ear! It’s the little gestures that go such a long way! I recommend The Buttery 1000%!! If you find yourself in the city of Limerick, do yourself a favor and stop into The Buttery! You will be charmed, and leave with a smile on your face and a belly full of good eats!
Next day- had breakfast and chose the chicken and waffles. They were delicious! Not too heavy for breakfast as chicken and waffles can often be. They were light yet filling! Yet another win for The Buttery! We can’t wait to come back,...
Read moreMy wife and I have been relatively frequent visitors to The Buttery. Having been in Limerick early today, we decided to call in for a bite to eat, when we arrived, we were told there was a 15 - 20 minute wait, no problem with that at all. We left and returned when our table was ready. When we arrived, we noticed a number of tables, 5 or 6, free.. and they remained so throughout our stay, a strategy to make the place look busier and more popular than it was perhaps? Two days before Christmas, there was hardly a need for that, surely? but if word of what I experienced next had gotten out, perhaps so. When ordering the Full Irish breakfast, as usual I asked for coffee instead of tea, I don't drink tea. I would have thought this was a fairly standard request, and anywhere I've made it, including The Buttery, in the past have obliged without question. Today I was told there would be an extra charge as only tea came with the breakfast...taken aback, I didn't press the issue, nor did I order my coffee. The tea that came with the breakfast was left in the pot, untouched. I had no issue with the food, as usual it was very tasty, but I was left with a sour taste over my lack of coffee, which is ironic as I like my coffee bitter. We will not be returning and I should have taken my wife's advice and gone to the Hook and Ladder... swapping coffee for tea isn't an...
