Boojum's food is almost always good. It's reliable and nice.
My reason for docking two stars is this: Boojum is cashless business, meaning you can only pay with card. What does that say about their target customers? Their food is relatively cheap but quite nutritious and in each of their locations the demographic is always students. (Typically low expendable income but still have things such as a home address, a phone, etc) The only reasons I can think of for a business to go cashless is hygiene/Covid safety and to prevent a demographic of person who wouldn't be able to get a card (ie. Someone without an address and children, though children would go for McDonald's or Burger King so I'm evaluating them as a target demographic). The staff don't wear masks and there is no longer a screen so I can confidently say it's not because of Covid safety, otherwise there would be more procedures.
Based on this, I can only conclude they have gone cashless to prevent homeless/houseless people from being able to dine there. This is disgraceful. Homeless people often don't have access to affordable good quality meals that Boojum offers and it's shameful for a business to try to subtly prevent them from entering.
As it's Pride Month, they have Rainbow flags all around. Considering LGBT+ people are disproportionately at risk for being homeless and I didn't see anything about a charitable donation I consider this an empty act done purely for marketing to fit better with the majority liberal to leftist ideology of their student primary demographic.
I'm not saying this to 'cancel' Boojum, I'm saying this as a critic of all cashless businesses, especially restaurants. I hope Boojum reconsider having cash in their establishment or some kind of alternative so the homeless population can easily dine.
Everyone deserves a nice place to eat. Not just people who have the privilege of home addresses. And if they're going to put on the Pride decoration, they should uplift the community in some...
Read moreToday, after a long trip and extremely hungry, we decided to order a take out from boojum in Limerick today 24/6 around 9pm. I asked for a burrito bowl with chorizo as a meat. When she opened the container, there is only few left (shown on the picture) and she shouted to her colleague for more chorizo. She decided to put the add ons while we are waiting for it. It is taking a while and I said that, if there is no more chorizo left at the back, I'll take chicken with it. From then she mentioned to me that she already put the chorizo. I replied and ask if it is really the portion size which she attitudely replied yes and moved on to a different customer. As we came from a very long trip, tired and non confrontational people, we decided to pay for it and it cost us 9 euro for this much food. 12 cubes of chorizo as protein. If the portion left is not enough, just say it directly so people can choose something else. It is embarrassing to charge people full price for this amount of food while other people received a decent amount of protein for almost the same price. I rarely write reviews but today's disappointing that it made...
Read moreReally cool place, sort of Subway style where you work your way along and select your ingredients. My boyfriend got a burrito (no photo) and I got hard shell tacos. Lots of vegan fillings available, different flavours of rice, at least 3 main “protein” options including the plant-based pork (highly recommend!) and the vegan 3 bean chilli filling which my boyfriend had and said was great, definitely something for everyone. They even had vegan sour cream!! Really good portions and flavours. 3 levels of spice on offer for the salsas (mild, medium, spicy) - I went with mild and my boyfriend had spicy - mine had a kick that I could just about handle, nothing too crazy but my boyfriend’s was prettyyy spicy! It’s more like a fast food vibe, than a dine in experience. Also serve beers and soft drinks. There seems to be a toilet but it’s number coded, so I’m not sure if it’s staff only or they just need to let you in. We didn’t want to wait for staff to use it so we just left and went to the nearest pub, this was a bit of a let down as it was...
