Amazing experience. HIGHLY recommend.
We wanted a cooking class/tour near Positano so I chose this one in Amalfi town - “lemon tour and private cooking class experience” at 4pm for $200 each. This is a real lemon farm and a family that goes back 6 generations of lemon farming. Due to the economy and other factors, in recent years they decided to open their farm to the public for tours and classes as a way to support the farm’s expenses. Their family has 500 years of history invested in the farm and “lemon in their veins” bc it’s a career driven by passion for the agriculture not for the money. However the cost of labor and the cost to run a quality organic farm of this size is almost impossible without tourism income like we see the small wineries also doing. The quick tour of the lemon farm was beautiful and informative and I learned about how the farm operates. The farm is fully organic even down to the “ties” they use to tie the vines to the trellis. Instead of plastic zip ties, they are organic vine type material.
After the tour we were seated on the terrace with a beautiful view and welcomed with an incredible slice of homemade lemon cake and lemonade. Next, the cooking started…we helped make the batter for lemon delight cake. While that baked, we worked with another family member to make fresh pasta. Lastly we assembled a baked eggplant dish. While everything cooked, we enjoyed Prosecco and a bottle of Wine on the terrace and some finger food they prepared.
Finally they served our 3 course meal we helped make. I missed a pic of the eggplant 😩 but it was SO yummy. The pasta was great and the lemon dessert rivaled those we had at 2 restaurants this week. The meal ended with some good cold limoncello. In total it was just under 4 hours long.
I can’t recommend this tour enough. On top of being good and quality food, every family member was SO friendly, kind...
Read moreWhere do I start? My daughter and I did not know what to expect from this lemon tour/cooking class we booked through Airbnb. We were blown away by the entire experience! The owner's son came to pick us all up in a golf cart, giving us a rundown on what to expect. He was very kind and funny. From there a young lady started the tour. She explained the family's 6th generation history and the details of what it takes to run a lemon business in Amalfi. We learned some very interesting facts about it. From there we walked up to where the lemons are farmed. Please note that if you struggle with heart issues, are pregnant or struggle with your weight, it is important to know that the tour is a 45 minute uphill inclined walk up of stairs and ramps with multiple shaded stops to talk and take photos/sample the lemons. We next walked down to the dining area, where they had us sample very generous portions of lemon cake, lemonade, and Limoncello. Absolutely delicious! From there, we started our cooking class overlooking the Amalfi mountains. Incredible views! We made homemade pasta, individual sized eggplant parmesan and an individual sized lemon tart for dessert. They gave us a full bottle of white wine as well. We had such a great time prepping and cooking with 2 other couples. I have to say that the amount of food we were given was incredibly generous. We left there stuffed but in a good way. It is a full day experience. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and a hat. We highly recommend this tour. We were able to meet many of the family members of this well run lemon garden, including the patriarch, a sweet older gentleman who happily watched on as we cooked and drank. Thanks to all for...
Read moreEvery time we visit Amalfi we visit Salvatore and his team (family members mainly) because it’s an experience that keeps on giving. I’m a local but it took me almost 40 years to visit a proper lemon grove. We think it’s just a field with Lemon trees right ? Well as I mentioned it took me a lifetime after seeing the lemon groves on the coast to finally visit one properly (they are privately owned by farmers so you are not welcome to just go and visit one randomly) and I did it with Salvatore that few years back came up with this innovative yet simple idea. He really makes the tour a full experience. If his dad is around try and have a chat with him, he is in his 80s now and spent whole his life on the grove. He has numerous stories to tell. A real entertainer. Finally stay with Salvatore’s family for a meal. Lemon is used as an ingredient in each dish from pasta to cheese and everything is cooked on the spot on site. You can see the magic happening in front of your eyes and enjoy local produce while seating on a wonderful terrace eating al fresco enjoying the views. Before leaving for a tour of the town (Salvatore will pick you up from the town centre with an electric cart ) make sure you visit the shop on the ground floor. Marco, Salvatore’s brother , runs the lab that produces limoncello spirit and other amazing drinks and desserts. If he is not busy ask to show how the limoncello is made !! It’s fascinating :-). Overall it’s a must do while in Amalfi and even if you are a local like me I bet you have never seen lemon trees...
