Recommended by our amazing host Federica is tucked away from the bustle of Amalfi’s main streets, Trattoria Dei Cartari is a true culinary gem—intimate, welcoming, and bursting with flavour.
We began with the eggplant parmigiana, which was meltingly soft, rich with tomato and cheese, and a perfect opening act. The seafood salad was fresh, zesty, and tasted like it had come straight from the sea that morning—delicate yet full of character.
Then came the stars of the show: the scialatielli seafood pasta, generously packed with mussels, prawns, and clams in a light, fragrant sauce that clung to every ribbon of pasta. The pasta alla bolognese? Simple, honest, and done absolutely right—slow-cooked, comforting, and perfectly seasoned.
And just when we thought we were done… the pistachio cannoli arrived. Heavens above. Crisp shell, smooth filling, and a pistachio hit that was sweet, nutty, and downright addictive. It’s the kind of dessert you pretend to share but absolutely do not.
Service was warm and attentive, with a real family-run feel. If you’re in Amalfi and want authentic food made with love and skill, Trattoria Dei Cartari is a must.
A meal we’ll be dreaming about long after the holiday ends. 10/10....

July 1, 2025 – Amalfi was boiling hot and crowded. We sat at this restaurant and ordered four drinks from a waitress, who came back a few minutes later trying to communicate something in poor English. She then brought over the manager, who said our order wasn’t enough and that we had to leave immediately unless we ordered alcohol.
We explained that my husband is an alcoholic. But the man was incredibly rude, so we got up to leave.
I accidentally left my bag on the seat, and the man picked it up. But instead of handing it to me, he THREW IT AGAINST THE WALL, to the complete SHOCK of me, my husband, and all the customers watching the scene.
Of course it turned into a big and loud chaos. One of the customers told us to report it to the police, which we did, as there was a station just a few meters away. The officers called the restaurant and said he apologized for the incident, which we don’t believe. According to the police, we should have stayed at the scene, rather than going to the station, so they couldn’t do much.
This man should never be dealing with customers, I hope someday he gets what he deserves so he learns to treat people...
Read moreThis was my first restaurant for my trip to Amalfi. This is also the first time I’ve written a 2 star review. My Air Bnb host recommended this place. I actually do food reviews on the side. At first thought it would be great. I got there early and it seemed to get busy. The prosciutto and mozzarella was substandard. The bread was not fresh and the olive oil I eventually had to ask for was also of poor quality. My main dish was tagliatelle with meat sauce was just ok. But what I did not like was the rude gentlemen that brought me my pasta. As I was literally writing a review he tells me to stop playing on my phone and eat. And that I can play on my phone later. I tried to let that go but it bothered me to the point where I lost my appetite. I mentioned to who I think may have been the owner. He apologized. But the gentlemen who came back over was defensive and said he joking even when I told him I do restaurant reviews. At lease the other gentleman seemed sincere. I paid and left all my food. It wasn’t worth take away. You know how you get a bad feeling about how you are being treated? That’s exactly how I felt and am disappointed with the...
