We ate here for dinner based on the high ratings, but after experiencing it myself I regret wasting a meal here. The entire place is operated by the chef, who is also the waiter, and entertainer (this seems to be his main passion). We waiting for quite some time to receive a menu or even order, when we did he anyway tried to convince us to eat the lemon pasta since he was preparing this for another table. I ordered that while my partner ordered the spaghetti con polpette, this annoyed the chef already since he had to prepare a different meal. While waiting we noticed how unclean the place really was, dog and cat hair were all over the table and dirty tablecloths from lunch were still laying on unclean tables in the back. After a whole ordeal of picking random ingredients from the very dirty terrace, he tossed them into a pan and prepared the whole meal outside, just bringing out the cooked pasta. Since the chef was making a big batch of lemon pasta for 7 people, my portion turned out very small, my partners meal was double the size at the same price. The spaghetti con polpette was not great either, 2 meatballs and very little sauce so the spaghetti had many dry spots. Both pastas were overcooked, not al dente and didn’t hold on to the sauce. We had already planned to quickly leave after our meal, but since the chef was “bored” after cooking he busted out the karaoke and made other tables participate, instead of preparing their meals. When we finally were able to pay, we didn’t receive a bill the chef did some “quick math” at the table and told us the final price. Either he can’t do math or he purposely overcharged us by a few euros. I would have preferred to eat in town and paid more for a decent meal....
Read moreWhat... a .... trip! Rocco's place is definitely a highlight of my trip, and possibly out of all my travels! First of all, it was a very rainy day, so we called ahead to make sure they were still open. They were so excited we called, they offered to pick us up at our Airbnb with their personal car! It was hilarious, but fantastic & we took advantage. When we got to the restaurant, we were greeted by Chico the dog and the most authentic experience ever. It felt like we were in Rocco and Nicholas's home. Beautiful artwork on the walls, and instruments all over the place. The wine is homemade, and also the best white wine I've ever had. It's served in a big pitcher, probably enough for a whole family! When we asked for the menu, Nicholas said, "No menu. You'll have pasta fazool & bruschetta to start." And that's what we got! We had no problem being surprised by our dishes, it felt more welcoming that way, like we were at a friend's house for lunch. It was delicious. We were also given eggplant parm & for the main dish, caramelized onions and sausage pasta. The entire time, we were entertained by conversations with Nicholas and Rocco, and another group of guests enjoying their meal by us. Rocco even dried a guest's soaking shoes in the oven for her! Once we were near finished eating, Rocco began singing! He had a full karaoke system set up. Then he convinced my brother to sing some songs, and before I knew it, I was singing with him. This experience will for sure hold special memories. Thank you Rocco and staff for making a rainy day...
Read moreWe went to eat at this restaurant and were welcomed by an Italian guy named Rocco. Right away, he asked us if we wanted the regular menu or his menu. We decided to go with the flow and chose his version – best decision ever.
He brought us cooked vegetables, lemon pasta, and lemon leaves with cheese – honestly, exactly the kind of food we love. The portions were huge – if it weren’t for my very ambitious appetite, we wouldn’t have had a chance to finish them.
And the taste? Wow. Just wow. Since I know this matters to most people reading reviews: the price, compared to what we got, was way lower than many other places we ate at in Italy.
But beyond the food, Rocco made us feel like family. He invited us to sit with him and his team, we shared wine and limoncello, and even more than that – he invited us to come back the next day to cook lemon pasta with him. Of course we came back, ended up watching TV together – and honestly, words can’t describe what an unforgettable experience it was.
The food, the service, the price – and most of all, Rocco – deserve 100 stars. Sadly, I can only give 5. Being in Amalfi and not visiting Rocco? That’s like going to Paris and skipping the...
