A truly exceptional experience. Not so easy to find but totally unforgettable. You have to go into the medical institute and ask to be shown the collection. It consists of some quite gruesome objects so do not go if you are squeamish, there are skulls,mummies from Egypt, skeletons with abnormalities and many jars of biological specimens. Il museo è stato inaugurato nel 1839 su iniziativa di Filippo Civinini, a cui è dedicato. Al primo piano si trova la galleria Mascagni, con le tavole anatomiche realizzate dall'anatomista Paolo Mascagni che sorprendono per la loro cura e precisione nonostante siano antiche più di due secoli. Al secondo piano ci sono due sale: nella prima c'è una collezione archeologica (ritrovate in scavi effettuati alla ricerca di mummie pre-colombiane), mummie e crani; nella seconda ci sono frammenti ossei, scheletri, modelli in gesso, un sarcofago egizio, teste e feti conservati in alcool ed, infine, i "pezzi forti" del museo: due mummie egizie molto ben conservate (una delle due ha ancora i capelli!), distese su una bara di vetro. Non è un museo per tutti: certi reperti sono impressionanti e qualche persona più sensibile potrebbe farsi suggestionare. Conviene prenotare la visita prima: io non l'ho fatto e ho trovato il museo aperto solo perchè altre persone casualmente lo avevano prenotato in quell'orario.
