While I can understand a shop owner’s desire to keep their products clean, my experience here was made uncomfortable by the way I was spoken to. As I was carefully browsing the items—some of which had inconsistent appearance—the shopkeeper suddenly told me, “Please do not touch the item when you have ice cream because it will make them dirty and OTHER CHINESE would say, ‘oh, it’s not clean, I don’t want to buy it.’”

What I found most upsetting was not the reminder itself, but the way she assumed my nationality without asking, and even more so, the way she singled out “Chinese” people as an example of difficult or picky customers. This kind of generalization is deeply inappropriate and shows a lack of cultural respect. I.didn't say I am Chinese or speak Chinese at that time, why mention any nationality at all?

I apologize for holding an ice cream. I didn't know it's a rule, despite I ate it carefully with a spoon, and my hands were completely clean. I didn't bring that in deliberately. There was no need for the sweeping statement about “other Chinese.” Regardless of the store’s rules, the tone and the comment were disrespectful and made me feel singled out based on my background.

As a traveler, I expect reasonable boundaries, but I also expect to be treated with fairness and respect—without assumptions...

The best gift shop in Pisa just next to the tower. It sells high quality 'Made in Italy' products. The products are not cheap but the shop has something for every budget. The products have excellent finishing and every product looks like an art creation. The calligraphy sets, the exquisitely crafted chess boards, the jewellery stones, and the miniatures are all so attractive. Best of all, the old gentleman who runs the shop is so kind and helpful.
