+JMJ...Having read whatever material I could find on St Dominic de Guzman, I was delighted to visit a Church which was mentioned in so many books! The antiquity of the Basilica is phenomenal, but what attracted me most of all was being able to visit this home to one of Jesus's "super star" followers. A follower of Christ Jesus who encouraged anyone he met to get to know Jesus through reading Sacred Scripture, through listening to Holy Spirit inspired preaching, and through putting into action the premier example of Jesus's mother, Blessed Mother Mary. St Dominic was totally devoted to serving Jesus and promoted an easy way for the faithful to prayerfully meditate on the life of Jesus Christ through prayerful reflection on the mysteries of the Holy Rosary. God's Church is much more than an architectural structure filled with artifacts created by any man, but all of these material things can make one ponder the creativity of God. Add to these material things the witness of one who was a living imitation of Christ Jesus, you might just get a glimpse into your eternity. Visiting this Basilica will hopefully inspire a desire to know, love, and serve God in preparation for eternal life with Him. Update to Review. Monday, 19 Sept 2022 Adding photos. My goodness...so many wonderful memories. Well, discovered I have only one of the interior and it is very poor quality. Photo taken during Rome pilgrimage, March 2007. I was blessed to be present during the Ash Wednesday Procession of Pope Benedict from Sant Anselmo to Santa Sabina. ...

Con riferimento all’abside,

a destra è la cappella di San Giacinto, costruita poco dopo il 1594, anno di canonizzazione del santo. La cappella è a pianta quadrata e presenta, nelle pareti e nella cupola, affreschi di Federico Zuccari, fratello minore di Taddeo, con scene della vita del santo. In particolare: alla parete sinistra la “ Vestizione del Santo”, su quella destra la “Canonizzazione del Santo” e sulla volta lo stupendo affresco “Trionfo della Madonna”: tutte opere realizzate dall’autore tra il 1599 ed 1600. Dello steso periodo, ma frutto del lavoro artistico di Lavinia Fontana, ritrattista manierista capace di distinguersi soprattutto per l'accuratezza dei particolari nei suoi dipinti, è la tela d'altare con la “Visione di San Giacinto” (1599);

The Basilica of Santa Sabina is the oldest existing Basilica in Rome that has preserved its original architectural style. Entering the Basilica, one gets a great feeling of space. Kaleidoscopic light floods in through the windows, reflecting on the walls. And the starred ceiling, sacred art, and chapels adorn every corner.

The superb colonnaded arcades create the perspective of the pathway to the Holy of Holies, the Eucharistic altar, and the Corinthian columns were once pillars in a 2nd-century pagan temple. Now they support the roof of the House of the Living God and are decorated with Eucharistic representations.

The apse of the Church is crowned by a fresco that depicts the Glorified Christ, above the River of Life. He is surrounded by the apostles St. Peter and Paul and other saints such as St. Sabina and St. Seraphia.

This Basilica was built in the 5th century on the site of early Imperial houses, on the property of Christian the martyr Saint Sabina.

This big wooden door is particularly precious as it contains the earliest depiction of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ in Western art. The door itself is a reminder that no one can arrive to Easter without entering through the door of the death of Jesus Christ...

🌳 The Savello Park or Orange Garden stands on the Aventine hill, in the area of the ancient fortress built by the Savelli family towards the end of the 13th century at the church of Santa Sabina; the fortress was built on a pre-existing 10th century castle belonging to the Crescenzi. 🍊 The large medieval walls of the fortress now surround the Park or Orange Garden, a small rectangular garden very popular because from the belvedere overlooking the river you can enjoy a splendid view of Rome from the bend of the Tiber to St. Peter’s Basilica. 🌳 The park, characterized by a symmetrical layout with a median avenue aligned with the belvedere, was built in 1932 on a project by the architect Raffaele De Vico, who enhanced the space enclosed between the ancient walls. In the enclosure wall, on the side opposite the side wall and the apse of Santa Sabina, the traces of the towers and the drawbridge of the castle are clearly recognizable. 🔑 Leaving the Orange Garden and turning right, you reach Piazza dei Cavalieri di Malta, designed by the famous engraver Giovan Battista Piranesi in 1765. From the lock of the door that leads to the Villa dei Cavalieri, you can see Saint Peter’s dome, framed by the garden hedges. 📍 Save this post for your Rome visit! 🥰 ———————————-———————————- #rometravelers #tourguidemitra #rometravel #travelbymitra #historiansofinstagram #rometours #rometodiscover #giardinidegliaranci #parcosavello #rometips #tourguiderome #romeguidedtour
