Lo Scopettaro — Restaurant in Rome

This restaurant was recommended to me by a local. At first when I arrived, I was skeptical as it was early in the evening and it’s a quiet neighborhood without much going on… however, the food BLEW me away!! This was my last meal after 2 weeks in italy and I absolutely loved everything I got!! By the end of the evening, there was also live music and a line - so it seems to be a popular place! If you’re going on a Saturday night, make a reservation in advance!

Service is standard for Italy - good quality, attentive when needed, and they don’t bother you and let you sit as long as you like.

Surly Joe the waiter was angry with us because we didn't have a reservation. He brought us downstairs to the noise chamber and told us we had to be out in one hour. The second waiter, who wasn't so surly, took our order. We waited for a while, not sure how long, and then everything we ordered came out at the same time. I was still eating the main course when the waiter brought out dessert for the rest of the party. If you want to save tables for reservations, then don't seat people. Yeah, we left angry. I spend $125 and leave angry? Get it right or don't do it at all. Maybe we got crappy service because we are tourists, but how many will see this and go somewhere else. A nice restaurant but we expected a better meal. The melanzane alla parmigiana was a good start but then came the disappointment. The carbonara was extremely dry and pasty not to mention the extreme yellowness of it. Please do not tell me this is authentic Roman, of all the carbonara I had in Rome, this was quite different and the least appetizing. The sugo di coda was very thin and tasteless with only a hint of oxtail. On the other hand, the personnel were all very warm and welcoming and the service was quick despite the restaurant being full.
