The Parish Church of Ortisei, dedicated to Saint Ulrich of Augsburg, was built in 1793 as a single-nave structure. Due to population growth and artistic flourishing in Val Gardena, it was expanded between 1905–1907 with two side chapels. Celebrated on July 4, Saint Ulrich is the patron of travelers, fishermen, and winemakers. The church, a late Baroque gem, features flat domes, an onion-shaped bell tower, and ornate interiors. Quando la chiesa venne costruita nel XVIII secolo, era a una navata. Nella seconda metà del XIX secolo però, la popolazione è aumentata a causa del fiorire dell’artigianato artistico gardenese e degli inizi del turismo in Val Gardena. Così la chiesa è stata ampliata negli anni 1905 - 1907 con due nuove cappelle laterali (a sinistra la Cappella Rosari, a destra la Cappella del Sacro Cuore).

L’edificio è consacrato a Sant’Ulrico (infatti il paese Ortisei si chiama St. Ulrich in tedesco) e all’Epifania del Signore (6 gennaio). La Chiesa Parrocchiale di Ortisei è un degno monumento dell’epoca tardo barocca, e inoltre inconfondibile grazie al suo tetto rosso scuro a bulbo.

Lo spazioso edificio è riccamente decorato con numerosi quadri, dipinti e figure, come la maestosa statua di Sant’Ulrico dell’artista Ludwig Moroder dl Mëune, il quadro dell’altare maggiore “Adorazione dei Re” di Josef Moroder-Lusenberg e il Gruppo di S. Elisabetta con il mendicante di Rudolf Moroder-Lenert (per quest’opera all’artista è stata assegnata la medaglia d’oro alla Mostra mondiale di Parigi nel 1900).
