Review of Mauriz keller-restaurant-pizzeria
I had high expectations for our dinner at Mauriz keller, and for the most part, the experience started off great. The food was excellent, especially the pizzas, which were some of the best we’ve had in a long time. The atmosphere was warm, and sharing the evening with good friends made it even more enjoyable.
Unfortunately, what should have been a perfect night was completely ruined by the unprofessional and rude behavior of one of the waiters. When the bill arrived, two of our four friends stepped outside to grab their wallets from the car as they forgot to bring them. At that moment, the waiter approached the two of us who remained inside and, speaking in Italian, pointing with his hands at us and warned (probably) his manager to keep an eye on us, assuming we were planning to leave without paying. What he didn’t realize was that I was the only one in our group who understood Italian and could clearly comprehend his accusation.
Rather than apologizing for this offensive and completely unfounded assumption, the manager justified the waiter’s actions by saying that if someone had left without paying, the waiter would have been responsible for covering the cost. This reasoning, however, does not excuse the lack of respect shown toward paying customers. Good manners and proper service should never be compromised.
To make matters worse, a woman working at the restaurant attempted to “make up for it” by sarcastically embarrassing my girlfriend in front of the entire room. She repeatedly asked how they could be forgiven, even going so far as to kneel in front of her—clearly mocking the situation rather than handling it professionally.
A restaurant is not just about good food; service and respect are just as important. Sadly, despite the excellent cuisine, the behavior of the staff at [Restaurant Name] left a terrible impression. I wouldn’t return, nor would I recommend this place to anyone who values being treated with dignity...
Read moreI'm American.. so to say that we are spoiled by our food back home, well to be specific I'm from Miami FL, one of the places in America where we have an abundance of good local, ethnic and fusion food and so every time we travel I find food to be acceptable but yet still less than the over popping of flavors that I'm used to. My wife and I travel a lot and I tend to look for that one place on every trip which stood out culinarily. Mauritz Keller was the pace for me on my most recent trip to Italy. Okay, so now for the review. The restaurant is easy to miss as it's a downwards entrance into a lower level. I happen to have seen it only because the wind shared a gust of the pizza smell coming from it. That's all it took for me to know this place was going to be good. We ordered several dishes and of course had to try the pizza as well and everything was perfect! very flavorful and with excellent presentation. The restaurant it self is very will and appropriately lit, clean and the vibe is layback (comfortable) the folks seem to have a natural inclination toward wanting to attend to you. I especially enjoyed the service by our waiter who was a bit too eager to take care of everyone.. We found him funny and very pleasing. Over all, the food is served rather quickly, hot and just out of the pan/oven which for us was perfect. As a Traveler I don't appreciate being indoors in restaurants or bars for long periods of time while the day passes by missing out on everything there is to explorer. Mauritz had the perfect serving speed and at no time did we feel rushed. And as for the cost of dining? If you're in Ortisei you must stop by for a great...
Read moreMauriz Keller is an underground restaurant located in the heart of Ortisei, boasting a spacious, traditionally styled interior that initially feels warm and welcoming. Service-wise, the staff were efficient and quick to seat us, take orders, and bring out food - a clear sign they have their operations well-rehearsed, likely due to how busy the place tends to get. While they weren’t unfriendly by any means, the interaction felt more transactional than warm… possibly a reflection of the high pace and volume of customers? We chose Mauriz Keller because the menu offered something for both myself and my partner, and online reviews were largely positive. However, we left feeling disappointed and a little taken advantage of. In our opinion, the restaurant leaned heavily into the “tourist trap” category, relying more on its central location and high foot traffic than on the quality of its offering. Price-wise, the menu was steep. While we expected higher prices given the location, the cost simply didn’t match the quality. A simple Margherita pizza, which was one of the more reasonable items on the menu, was fine but a pasta starter priced at €19 was particularly underwhelming. We were also served a bread basket at the start of the meal, which was unfortunately full of stale and hard bread. When we requested a fresh one, we were given a replacement at no charge, though we’ve since read reviews suggesting that may not always be the case. In our opinion, it’s a place that seems to capitalise on its central location and tourist appeal, but in our experience, it didn't live up to the hype and we left wishing we had chosen...
