petit hotel #MELON Furano — Attraction in Furano

Booked on the basis of good TripAdvisor reviews and the place looked and sounded charming from online reviews, but I found our stay very disappointing. It's not quite a hotel, more a mid-range hostel or B&B. Appreciate that it was the peak summer tourist season, but I thought it really overpriced for what we got. Rooms and breakfast were basic, amenities were average. Our en-suite bathroom was musty and smelly, which stank up our whole room (although it was better after we complained and staff cleaned the shower curtain). Basement level (kitchenette, fridge and laundry areas) was dark, dank and kinda scary...Didn't sleep well either as the walls are thin and you hear sounds of other guests' footsteps, doors shutting, etc. Outside garden area at entrance was untidy and did not create a good first impression. Staff were pleasant and did try to be helpful, but for the price we paid, I would stay elsewhere....

Not the best location or amenities, nor the cleanest or most modern facilities but more than acceptable for the price. Shared showers were huge and quite nice. Rooms were reasonably sized and good air con, although beds weren't the most comfortable. However the staff here are amazing. When we visited there were 2 young guys working. They had fantastic english skills and were really hospitable. These guys love their jobs and love communicating with guests and really made our short stay here an enjoyable experience. The place is quite cozy so I imagine it might get a little noisy during peak season, but if you're visiting during off-peak like we did I would really recommend this place especially if you wanted a chance to socialise with other travelers and hotel staff. If we are back in Furano would not hesitate to...
