The Shuzenji Temple is just a stone throw away from the footpath and the historical outdoor onsen. Unfortunately, when we visited the temple there was a group of Chinese tourists talking inadequately loud, yelling and screaming and not behaving at all in a way that other people could enjoy a peaceful atmosphere.

Nearby, visitors can explore historical sites linked to the Genji clan and cross the “Five Bridges” over the Katsura River, said to bring blessings for love. While it’s a popular tourist spot, visiting early in the morning allows for a quieter, more...
Read moreThe temple is located within a very picturesque village. It’s within walking distance of red bridges, a bamboo walking path, river, hot foot bath, boutique shops, cafe’s and ryokans. It would be stunning in the autumn because of the numerous Japanese maple trees located within and surrounding the temple. I’ll be sure to visit again during...
