I do not usually write reviews! But please BEWARE as there are hygiene problems at this hotel and boy oh boy the customer service was worst than the hygiene of the hotel I must say. Our maiden trip to Kamakura was pleasant until the moment we came back to our room at Hotel Metropolitan Kamakura and to our surprise we found an adult cockroach crawling in the room. Never did we encounter hygiene/pest problems in a hotel in Japan and this is definitely our first! We acted quickly and had it exterminated with a slipper before it gets a chance to go on hiding or crawling elsewhere and flush it down the toilet. We immediately alerted the front desk. It was 10pm, had a long day and we don’t have the energy to start packing our belongings for a room change since we will be checking out the next day. Requested for a free breakfast or late check out as compensation. Hotel front desk Ms Yoshida rejected our request outright and said the hotel was full but to our surprise, the hotel still have rooms available the next day on its website as well as other third party booking websites. She further mentioned that we could proceed to leave a negative review about the hotel as well as our encounter on social media as she has gotten the hotel manager’s approval to inform us to go ahead for the negative review. So here we are! Writing a bad review at midnight! Tired, dissatisfied with the hotel’s service and management. Never again will we come back to this hotel and our dissatisfaction will continue to live on to any future recommendations for hotels in Kamakura to avoid this hotel.

This is my favorite Shonan hotel. One of the English-speaking staff, Kushiro-san, was highly professional, helpful, and knowledgeable. Sometimes, at Japanese hotels I have noticed that the concierge or the front desk staff are not willing to recommend a restaurant because they feel overly responsible for the results but in this case she steered us to the best tonkatsu I’ve had in years. And the next day, I visited Garden House for lunch. SOME TIPS: if you visit by car, use of the recommended Times parking lots behind the property. They are quite conveniently located and less expensive than the hotel basement parking. Otherwise, the rooms are very well-apportioned, even spacious, which is a word I don’t often use when describing Japanese hotel rooms :) Since I was traveling solo this time, I didn’t try the breakfast at the cute Muji Cafe downstairs. Maybe next time. On balance, I’d enthusiastically recommend this property to anyone visiting Kamakura. The location cannot be beat. I expect it will become much busier and perhaps more expensive once travel resumes. They deserve it. I suspect this might be the nicest Metropolitan Hotel in Kantō. Thank you 🙏🎉😄

Great stay! Big, comfortable beds- we slept in a king. Japanese-modern décor. Short walk from the train/bus station. Top notch customer service, especially from the concierge. They even found and saved my lost iPhone charger, and when I returned for it, they gave it to me in a lovely tote with a handle. They’ll hold your bags until check out, and after check out also for a few hours if needed. We will return here and definitely recommend!

Hotel and staff amazing. Great wooden theme throughout, a relaxing stay. Staff very courteous best in Japan to date by a lot. Unfortunately let down by breakfast. Held in the cafe on the ground floor which is run by the Muji clothing store. Service was fine, not great. Food average. A shame as it doesn't match the hotel experience. However wouldn't stop me from staying here again. I would just eat elsewhere.

First of all, staff are very welcoming! So friendly and helpful. Second, here the location is the best among all. And the third, the hotel is new so it is extremely clean and comfy. If you plan to stay in Kamakura for a couple of days, you must experience this hotel. I can guarantee that this is the best in Kamakura.
