Kaga Honda Museum — Attraction in Kanazawa

石川県立歴史博物館と同じ、金澤陸軍兵器支廠の兵器庫を活用した博物館で、加賀藩の家老を務めた本多氏の所蔵品が展示されている。 石川県立博物館との共通点として、往年の威容を彷彿させる赤レンガの建物が挙げられるが、内装は異なっており、博物館として刷新され、少なくとも目にした範囲では、石川県立博物館の内部で見られた洋館の面影は感じられない。展示品は古文書や書状が多く、それらの劣化を防ぐためか、石川県立博物館の展示室と比較するとやや暗い印象を持つ。加えて展示品の説明もほとんどが日本語であるため、訪れる外国人観光客は皆無に等しい。とは言え、本多氏、ひいては藩主である前田氏との繋がり、これまで加賀藩に寄与してきた本多氏の軌跡を学ぶ上で重要な博物館と言える。 博物館の奥にある、甲冑や刀が展示されているスペースのみが、基本的に写真撮影可となっており、その他は原則禁止となっていることに注意が必要である。

Like the Ishikawa Prefectural Museum of History, this museum is housed in the arsenal of the Kanazawa Army Ordnance Branch Arsenal, and exhibits the collection of the Honda clan, who were the daimyo's minister of the Kaga domain. The museum shares with the Ishikawa Prefectural Museum a red brick building reminiscent of the grandeur of yesteryear, but the interior is different, having been renovated as a museum, and at least as far as the eye can see, there is no trace of the Western-style building seen in the interior of the Ishikawa Prefectural Museum. Many of the exhibits are old documents and letters, and perhaps to prevent them from deteriorating, the exhibition rooms seem a bit darker than those of the Ishikawa Prefectural Museum. In addition, most of the explanations of the exhibits are in Japanese, so there are almost no foreign tourists visiting the museum. Nevertheless, the museum is an important place to learn about the Honda clan, its connection to the Maeda clan, and its contribution to the Kaga clan. Please note that only the area in the back of the museum where armor and swords are displayed is basically open for photography, and the rest of the museum is not allowed for...

This is an interesting museum of artifacts and heirlooms of the Honda samurai clan. While the collection is not big, you get to see interesting historical objects and documents, as well as a couple of samurai armours and weapons.

I think it's not entirely worth it to visit it by itself (I think it was 300 yen to enter), but you can buy a double ticket for the Ishikawa Prefectural History Museum for 500 yen, which is a very cheap price for all that...

It costs 400yen. Is a very small museum (~10 minutes for non-Japanese speakers) with some samurai armour and katana (2 of each): There are many letters exposed, but no translation to English (only a description). Most of the museum is not photo friendly, but the end (most interesting part) is!

I wasn’t able to see many samurai content throughout Japan, so I’m happy...
