This lovely little park is a fresh breath of green in the middle of a fairly concrete city. The entrance near the old castle walls is a pretty steep slope that leads up to an open area with a nice view of the streets below. There are also a few monuments at the top and an adorable little red Japanese-style footbridge. In the spring there is a long corridor of cherry trees that all bloom together and is a popular spot for locals to spread out a picnic tarp and have Hanami parties. On the lower levels of the park, there is a lot of greenery and a little creek leading to a nice pond. If you continue to walk around you can find little treasures like the history museum, a totem pole, and a historic warehouse that on some days you can go inside and look around. Other than the cherry blossom season, they also hold music festivals and some other events here in the park, usually in the wide gravel field or over by the...

I visited Morioka Castle in the winter, with snow blanketing the entire area. It was truly breathtaking and beautiful. The first level of the castle is an expansive park adorned with cherry blossoms lining the pathways. The second level offers a panoramic view of the entire park and even Mt. Iwate in the distance. The serenity and tranquility of the snowy landscape combined with the historical charm of the castle create a captivating atmosphere. The contrast of the white snow against the dark wood of the castle is a sight to behold. It's an ideal place to experience both the natural beauty and historical significance of Morioka. Whether you're interested in cultural heritage, photography, or simply a serene escape, Morioka Castle offers an unforgettable experience, particularly during the winter when the surroundings are transformed into a...

It was bursting with vibrant pink and white cherry blossoms, creating a picturesque scene that took my breath away. I spent hours strolling through the park, enjoying the soft petals falling gently around me.

To make it even more special, I decided to have a hanami picnic with my family. We spread out our blankets under the trees, indulging in delicious food and drinks while enjoying the beauty of the blossoms.

If you're in the area during cherry blossom season, I highly recommend visiting Iwate Castle. It's the perfect spot to immerse yourself in the magic of sakura and create lasting memories with your loved ones. Trust me, you won't be...

The Morioka Castle is perhaps the most well known landmark to visit in Morioka. Please note you will not find an actual castle here. If you're from Canada, it's more of a city park with a few monuments. There is a totem pole from Vancouver Island here! There were two stray cats here. One of which followed us for nearly twenty minutes. The cat was adorable. We then entered the museum. The first floor has a few displays and videos from traditional Morioka festivals. They were all free to access. The museum on the second floor is paid entry, but I didn't enter as I wasn't in a mood to read that day. I highly recommend checking this area out!
