This place was beautiful, Hiroshi Sugimoto is a master at designing a particular mood and invoking a particular feeling you can't really describe without being there.
He his work has the highest level of lighting and clean minimal design which is apparent here.
Unfortunately, I came here after seeing his greatest work of art... the Enoura Observatory which was honestly one of the most beautiful places I have been.
Because of this, I was already familiar with his work and it is underwhelming in comparison.
If you have never seen his work before, you will have a great time and be incredibly mesmerized by his design. However if you have been to Enoura, don't expect to have the same level of enlightenment here.
The included tea and snack was delicious and in a beautiful place that made the price of admission worth it already, so I recommend you go no matter what if you are on Naoshima.
One thing that really bugged me was the opening hours. The best time to see the teahouse is undoubtedly during twilight/sunset but that's outside of viewing hours. The only time you can go is during the day when the sun is harsh and the lighting does not show the teahouse at its best. Wish there was a 6-7pm...

Chih Ton In the space for the repose of the soul, there is a glowing five-ring pagoda, and at the center is a miniature of the Enoura weather station, which Sugimoto has been photographing for many years, and the "seascape" seen from there, an interesting detail. The outdoor space also has a transparent teahouse, which is reflected in the...
Read moreVery much enjoyed! I visited Naoshima alone for the first time and this was one of the locations I definitely wanted to go to before I went back home. (The day I went I was able to buy tickets in person and enter right away, however I do hear it is better to reserve tickets in advance. )
As an arts student I look to have as much input as possible in terms of the art I see, and I think this place had a lot of variety when it comes to styles and mediums. The gift shop here also had items alluding to pieces and installations all around the island which was nice :)
A tea and wagashi set is included in the ticket price and I loved it 🥰 I had the matcha set with a yuzu-an wagashi and enjoyed my seat outlooking Hiroshi Sugimoto’s Glass Tea House.
