Ajisai garden (Hydrangea garden) — Attraction in Shimoda

Ajisai, also known as Hydrangea in English, start blooming late May and last maybe 5 weeks. A beautiful flower garden in Shimoda city park. If you are visiting Shimoda about a 10-15 minute walk from the main train station. During June there is about six to eight small food or drink stalls and a med sized covered seating area in the center of the park where you can purchase refreshments. The park is much larger than the Ajisai garden and has well maintained mostly paved hiking trails. Many varieties and colors of Ajisai can be seen. Within the park there are beautiful views of Shimoda city and Bay and the nearby ocean shoreline. There are many park benches where you can relax and view the park, gardens and ocean. Take some time to see Perry Road nearby the Ajisai garden. On Perry Road you can see some historic buildings and learn about Shimoda's history and the role it played as Japan eventually became an open country welcoming outside visitors and trade. 7月３日、朝９時に訪れました。 無料駐車は24時間開放で30台ほど停められるでしょうか？ 既に10台ほど駐車していました。 6月末まで紫陽花祭りが開催されていた期間は停められなかったようですが元通りに解放されていました。 本当は最盛期の花を観賞したかったのですがあいにく天候が良くなかったので今回の訪問になりました。 既にお祭りも終わり、ひっそりしていました。 紫陽花は盛りを過ぎてはいましたが、場所によりまだ綺麗に咲いていて十分楽しむことができました。 山一面を覆うようにして植えられた紫陽花は圧巻です。 特に赤紫、ピンク系の紫陽花が多く、紫の紫陽花とのグラーデーションがあってとても綺麗です。 お祭りの時期は大変混雑するようですのでのんびり鑑賞出来て買って良かったかもしれません。 ただ、次回は満開の時期に来...
