Kurofuneya — Restaurant in Shimoda

Small local place, with absolutely delicious and fresh fish served by caring staff. Following a recommendation, I was reluctant to enter the restaurant because I could not view its interior on an empty street on Shimoda's night. As I arrived, the owner guided me to sit in the small bar area (Japanese style, shoes off). Besides language communication challenges, helped by some super-friendly local customers I could order a tasty salted mackerel set meal prepared with great care. We came to eat at Kurofuneya for lunch in August 2025. Although it was a quiet weekday, the restaurant is very popular, partly because many restaurants in that area don't serve tourists.

There was a line at 13:00 when we arrived. There is no sign up list for waiting, but after 13:30 they said that no more people can join the line. We entered the restaurant at 13:45 and were able to leave by their closing time of 14:00 thanks to their efficient service. I highly recommend the ajifurai teishoku, it was so fresh...

The restaurant was full when we came. The owner asked us to wait outside. That's of course ok. Then a japanese guy came. He passed us and entered the restaurant. Which was an astonishing behaviour.
