This haven of tranquility is only 25 minutes from Shibuya but provides an authentic onsen ryokan experience.||Rooms come with a Japnese Breakfast which for a westerner was an experience in itself. I guess like an English breakfast it is not something you would eat every day but it was certainly more healthy. Recommend the green tea as an accompanying drink rather than the coffee we had on our first morning. The fermented soya beans must be an acquired taste but everything else was great to try.||Do some homework about onsen behaviour before you go and practice putting on the yukata or a similar style garment if you can. High quality yukata garments are provided in the room. I reckon about 60% of guests wore these garments throughout the stay - my attempt to wear it correctly ended up in failure because I had not practised beforehand. Instructions on how to wear and on onsen etiquette are available at the venue via an online link. There is also an app showing congestion status in the onsen.||We had a room above basic level and as you can see from the attached picture it was perfection.||Space is limited however so it is worth paying some attention to packing beforehand if you can so that you only have the items you need for the stay to hand. We had not done this, did not wish to clutter the bedroom area with our luggage, so were stepping over our baggage in the smallish utility space. I think larger bags can be stored on premises and there is a popular forwarding luggage system in Japan.||Not sure the wooden floor was totally compatible with the washing and toilet area and this area felt a little stuffy at times. Some fan noise was noticeable in the main room but these are minor quibbles.||The floor itself is a beautiful naguri one and comfortable tatami mats surround the bed.||Staff are totally polite, courteous and helpful. They helped us book the popular Sherubee izakaya down the road. This is in the lively Shimokitazawa area which is well known for its thrift stores. I could take or leave that area but the streets around the onsen are peaceful and pleasant to walk though with a number of refreshment venues to choose from.||A stay here was one of the highlights of our...

Read moreI was surprised to slide in from the metro in a such a hidden gem. It's a very well designed experience.
The room: very nice atmosphere with tatami and hand carved wooden floor, generous space. The spring mattress are of good quality and work good for the back, no kitschy soft mats. The shower cabin is covered in metal and the pressure is unmatched. The studio has a nice sitting place with a view to the street feels very intimate, no sound gets through. A plus in the fact that you can still open the windows for fresh air, besides leaning on the ventilation.
The bath robes are of good Japanese quality, the kaki outer jacket felt good. Also the slippers were good, it felt cosy to dress before going to onsen. While not a big fan of wearing costumes, I didn't mind going to the onsen in that suit.
The onsen is great, the lockers nicely done, good surface on the floor keeping humidity out, good hair driers, fresh available towels. Inside the cleaning cabins are nice, good shower heads. The dry sauna is good, high temperature, as it should be. The quality of the sitting towels is ok. Outside it's a little garden. You can watch it, hear the sound of the street while cooling off after the sauna or bath. Also a great hot water basin.
We had breakfast with our booking. First day it was amazing, so much food for that moment of the day 7:30 was our option. Grilled fish, a miso bowl, rice, pickles, tofu, some fruit, drinks. Taste was good and it felt great to start the day with such a rich offering. The second day it felt too much to eat the same again. The variation was insignifiant, only 1-2 products differed.
With the reception desk the experience was inconsistent. We also had English speaking customer service that welcomed us and guided us. We had some problems at one point with a delivered package that was not announced in spite of multiple questions. They handled the situation professionally without any resistance. Generally the stuff felt welcoming and respectful to the place and visitors. They had nice suits too, I appreciate...
