From start to end, Okura did not disappoint! Our family of 4, including 2 teenagers, were treated like royalty from the moment we walked through the door. First, a disclaimer. We are a family that travels the world, but looks for hotels that are not in the center of all the action. Our preference is to be adjacent so at the end of the day, we are in a tranquil, luxury setting at the conclusion of a hectic sightseeing day. For example, in Rome, we prefer the Waldorf Astoria. Okura fit the bill for us. If you are travelling with young children or looking for a party scene, this is not for you. They have rules and expect decorum of their guests as this is the place where diplomats, celebrities, politicians stay/frequent so if you are looking for a casual experience, then this is not for you. This hotel not only has a Japanese aesthetic, is it the epitome of Japanese hospitality. EXCEPTIONAL service and cleanliness. We booked 2 rooms for 1 week in the Prestige tower through Platinum Amex FHR. Breakfast is in Orchid restaurant or in the executive lounge. We tried both venues for breakfast and preferred Orchid, it had more variety, but if you want a smaller, even more quiet venue, then try the Lounge. We had drinks with friends in the starlight lounge, great cocktails and the view was fabulous. We also tried Sazanka, the teppanyaki restaurant. My goodness, that was an incredible experience with amazing food and service. Expensive, totally worth it. The rooms were so spacious and incredibly clean. Okura provides you PJs, nice touch. The toiletries in the bathroom are really luxe, I won't ruin the surprise, but you will really like all the treats. They do not have connecting rooms so we really wanted to ensure that we had rooms next to each other and were in contact with them via email prior to our arrival, so responsive and polite. Location might not be for everyone as I mentioned, but we loved Tornomon Hills and Azubudai Hills. They are within walking distance, amazing eateries, great ramen, and shopping. Hermes and Team Labs Borderless is in Azubudai Hills. Luxe, calm, neighborhood. There are multiple subway lines. For those with teens and tweens, check out Red at Tokyo Tower, which is also close to the hotel. As Japan is famous for their 7-11s, we had to try and it is literally right next to the hotel. One tip, if you are exhausted from your day out in Tokyo and just want to chill in your beautiful room, until I think about 6 or 7, downstairs in the cafe attached to Orchid, there are beautifully chef prepared japanese takeaway meals. You can ask the staff to heat these up for you and even get a glass of wine to take up with you. This was such a great feature, plus there were half the price of room service. Honestly though, you will not have a shortage of places to eat in the Toronomon or Azubudai complexes. Overall, I will return to Tokyo and this is the only place I will stay. Absolutely incredible. I can't thank everyone at Okura enough for making our 25th wedding anniversary celebration so special. We will be back again soon!
