Riga's central market for a foreigner could be an interesting place to walk through, but without the knowledge of fluent Russian or a distinct interest in markets, I'd rather say you can easily skip it. Architecture is nothing to be impressed about, the goods are cheap China-made items one can buy cheaper online and get delivered on your doorsteps. The fresh food items are seasonal. So, if you're a wild berry or mushroom lover, then you can find them there fresh. Recommended time to visit: mornings. Just a few hundred meters away, behind the market is an enormous Soviet building, similar to those that were built to all mayor cities in the era - a culture and science palace, as they used to be called. A similar building can also be found as a landmark in the Polish capital city, Warsaw. If you're interested in that type of buildings then you can reach it following the street from the old town under the railway just passing the market.
